Gardening with Cinder Blocks Warning

I read this today on The Bayou Gardener.

My blocks are over 50 years old so I guess everything leached out already...

appreciate the warning but when I see stuff like this, I think ....

meh, pretty much living will kill ya so swapping cinder blocks for those landscape timbres with their chemical treatment cant be any safer either so anything you use will be bad for the most part

granny always said "if it don't kill you, it just makes you stronger for it"

I have heard this as well. I know several universities have done some research on this and the only thing that they determined was the blocks can leach lime into the soil over time. There is the possibility of leaching other compounds due to the fly ask but none of the research found enough evidence that it will leach.... lots of chatter on the internet about this topic but no scientific research to back it up.
