Homeschoolers Win Top Junior Honors in First 1000 Yard F-Class Match

Shooting has been a part of our educational program for many years, including air rifle, 22 LR, and centerfire rifle. In the past few years, my two sons (daughter also) have focused on benchrest and 600 yard F-Class. They've won a few benchrest matches, but never took home awards in F-Class until their first 1000 Yard match last weekend.
My older son (right) has a bit more experience and won first place junior in F-Open shooting a score higher than anyone in the family had ever shot at 1000 yards. My younger son (left) also managed to shoot very well and take second place in F-Open. The big smiles are their acknowledgement that all that practice is finally paying off. |
Dude that's awesome. I always wanted to shoot out to a grand

That is great MG. Having been lucky enough to meet your children I can say those are two fine young men and deserving of that accomplishment. Great job guys :)

Wow that is great shooting.
I wish that kind of match shooting would have been more available when I was there age [50 years ago]. I shot in a few 22 lr [50 feet] matches at the LSU indoor range. We had a BSA club that shot weekly at the LA state trooper indoor range on North Foster rd in Baton Rouge. We had a couple of club matches with the "Junior Deputy" club. After we beat them the first match, they wanted a rematch a couple months later....but the results were the same. My older brother went on to shoot some on his college team. I completed the Jr.NRA program up to the Expert rank and was a little more than half way through the Distinguish rank requirements [must shoot 10 targets of min. score in each of the 4 position] before I turned 18 years old. Shooting the sitting position was always my hardest. I shot better standing. |
