hook sharpening
Any recommendations on what to buy for sharpening lead head jigs or just a waste of time to begin with
? |
I buy jigheads with gamatsu or mustad black nickel hooks. Throw them away if they get dull and tie another one on. They cost a lot more but I don't have to deal with dull hooks.

I use a small sharpening stone 3-1/4" x 7/8" 3/8" I keep in the tray of my tackle box, one like this: I don't use the groove at all and personally wish it was just flat smooth on both sides I will say, hooks are not intended to have to be continuously sharpened so after you sharpen it once maybe twice, its time for a new hook. the idea is to put a fine sharp point that digs into your fingernail instead of sliding when dragged lightly across it. often I find brand new hooks could use sharpening if im buying the cheap jig heads |

I use one of these. You can get for about 6 bucks. Just pass it lightly in the groove till it sticks your fingernail...I use fairly expensive jig heads so I sharpen 2 or 3 times before I throw away...
