Rockefeller / Rollover Report

Monday 10/5/15.

Rollover- Shrimp on again/off again. Monday almost no shrimp. Fishing is
nada.

Rock- some shrimp at da weirs, and a few fish on da rocks. Today around
3:00 wind flipped to Southwest, beach water muddied up fast.
3 Reds/5 Specs today on live bait in about 2 hrs. fish time. Lots
of hardheads. Also caught some shrimp...but kinda slow and mixed
size.

Thanks for the report.

Might be a dumb question, but where da rocks at?
I've only fished those weirs in the main canal (this summer with almost no luck), but been told to hit em when it cools off

Jrchip1 10-06-2015 11:04 AM

Da Rocks: run to the gulf, turn right. Overall da Rock still needs to cool down some more for the fish, and get more saline. BTW- the Rocks are more hit or miss, than a Slam Dunk (as is all fishing). Need to have a Plan A, B, C, ..and on and on, takes time as you well know. :):)

Exactly (will B looking for ur Pt report)

Also BTW: Today the Rock (West and East Side) had about 50 boats out. Shrimp and crabs R the target for most, even though did see a 5' garfish being loaded up in a boat. Rollover still looked slow from the Hwy

The best weir (not sure of name) at rollover is being rebuilt, cannot get to it from the refuge side, will be a while. Went last week from pecan island side and caught about 5 pounds. No longer water moving due to the steel plate (bulkhead) is blocking and the middle section, was pumped out completely dry! There is still grating you can stand on, probably will redo that also. Should be nice when finished, hope as nice as LSU weir...

Da Pernt

tried the Cove, the Hammock and the camp piers in between. Water not bad, but very slow. We picked up 3 keepers and several throwbacks. Didn't see anyone doing any better. One guy we ran into said it's the worst he's seen since 1989 (the year of the freeze). Not sure I'd go that far, but not spectacular, that's for sure.

Thanks for posting CB! Going Saturday. I bet as the wind calms down it will pick up.

Gonna hit the beaches between FW City and Rockefeller tomorrow. Tides look weak, maybe....just maybe.... Problem is, I think, is that most of the trout are in transition and it will be a challenge to locate a hungry, cooperative mob. Either way I'll report, however the more fish I catch, the fewer details I'll reveal ;) ;).

Fishing Report: 10/8/15

SE winds along the beach, 1-2' seas. Caught a limit of Reds (had to release a couple 27"+). Caught them in 3 places...all on fresh/live, cast net caught shrimp

(1) Protected Bay- 3 Reds- released 2 that were Rats (water a brown/green tint)

(2) Estuary empting into the gulf -4 Reds/1 Spec water greenish then turned dirty

(3) Draining (falling tide) inland pond, caught 2 bull Reds (released both)

Primary mission was to locate some hungry Specs. Too many places for them to hide.

Anyone hear about the boating accident in Rockefeller this morning? A fishing boat collided with a work boat. Two of the fishermen were airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. I didn't see any threads about the accident. I hope everyone will make a full and speedy recovery.

My daughter heard a report that someone was killed yesterday. Don't know anything more than that. Prayers for all.

Someone started a thread about it on here at 7:34 pm yesterday.

Will hit the same beach area again tomorrow, report to follow.

Jrchip1 10-11-2015 07:32 PM

Explored new areas till 2:30 PM.....only caught 2 Specs, water was muddy. East wind in the AM, then due South :pissed: during the afternoon. At 2:30 decided enough scouting new areas and it was time to try to catch some fish. My first choice had a boat already fishing so I didn't even try. Ran to an inland lake, but the Reds were few and far between. Found a protected bay with greenish water and caught 10-12 Reds (kept 5) and 2- puppies. No Specs where they should have been. May have to go with the crowds in the bay for some Specs. Only fooled with Shrimp for bait in the morning and then later caught a few lbs. to add to my 2 Specs for dinner. I love fried Speckle Trout !!!!!! :) :)

Rock and Roll

OK- The fish are slowly coming alive. Today caught 15 keeper Specs, 2-
Reds(marinade candidates) and tossed some Sand trout, small Specs and
Rats. Fished the Beaches and inland canals. Caught Reds and Spec's in both places in
anywhere from a muddy brown to a dark clearish brown water.

The Shrimp: didn't spend much time there, just enough for bait. The
16-20's are few and far between, and there's a bunch running 3"
long.

Attempted to attach a box shot jpeg. The best Spec bite was this A.M.
on the beach. I was fishing live shrimp, but another boat was doing
pretty good with a lead head, and a fresh shrimp tail attached, under a float.
