VBay Trout: Rigs in the Fall?

I finally have a larger boat for making fishing trips to the rigs and platforms. Can trout be caught at Vermillion Bay's rigs this time of the year?

Yes sir. but as the cold front get stronger the trout will head inside.

Just took a boat ride and scouted. Tried the Avery, Nav Channel, Mud point and a few random secret spots today. Just gafftops still.

Beautiful day to be out.

I assume you mean in the Gulf in the SMI and Vermilion Blocks. Can you catch some right now? Yes. But they are definitely in transition so the likelihood of going out there and smashing them isn't like it is in June and July. I don't know how much you have fished out there so I will tell you that not every structure holds fish, the majority of them don't. If you can get your hands on some coordinates it will save you a lot of frustration. Right now there are a few wellheads with big shell pads that are producing but you have to know where they are at. But if you are feeling lucky and want to take your new boat out on the in the Gulf go for it. That's how I learned how to fish out there.

Saw a blue Nautic Star in the pass, thought it may have been you.

Everything from the Chene to Tette Butte was stirred up and muddy. I managed a few but it took me 13 hours and 25 gallons of gas. The rain coupled with north wind had the bay jacked up pretty bad. Going to take a few days for it to settle down again.

Thanks for the recommendations friends. I haven't had any luck at the cove, hammock or trash Pile yet, but the water is cooling so it should be turning on very soon.

Week before last i went one evening picked up 2 small white trout and jaws ate my brand new skitter walk. mostly gaftop and ladyfish... strange they should have been in way earlier with the salinity being so high so early.

Tell me about it. Thought I had a man sized red until Mr. Blacktip came up for a peek.

Fished Tee Butte to Flat Lake 9/13. A few rats, and a bunch of Gaffy's, sharks and a string ray.
