Blood River Fly Rod Trip 5/7

1 Attachment(s)
Fished out of Tickfaw river today with only a fly rod and a deadly bait called the brim killer, first time with the fly rod this year. Launched boat at 4pm was done at 530Pm, most fish came from the blood river. 5wt fly rod with strike indicator and a Accardo brim killer was the deal.

Tell yall what can be fun, tie a small popper to your leader then tie 10 inches of leader or so to the popper and one of those wet flies to it. That is what we used to call a brim killer back in the day. Takes a lil practice but ya cast the popper a lil short and hesitate. then when ya pop the popper the wet fly behind rises up some and settles back slowly after the pop. If one dont get em the other one will and I have on occasion caught 2 at a time.

That's how my dad fish the bream killer, I used to fished it that way but found that it causes a lot of tangles and wind knots so that's why I used just the strike indicator which is just a tiny piece of foam with self adhesive on the back.

Here is my exact setup, I vary the depth of the strike indicator from 10 inches to sometimes two feet depending.
