Golden retriever hips

1 Attachment(s)
Today at the hardware store, I saw my 9 week old golden retriever pup laying like this. It is the first time I've ever seen a dog lay like this. A guy at the gun store where he did it again said he heard that if the dog can lay like this, it means it has good, healthy hips. Can anyone confirm that theory or has ever seen a dog lay like this? My 11month old golden retriever has never done this.

Yeah, lots of dogs lay like that.

Yea, my blue heeler is like that all the time.

Reminds me of that joke...a guy sees a dog licking himself one day and says, "I wish I could do that." The dogs owner said, "Go ahead, I don't think he will mind!"

Only means he is hot. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ah. Ok just wanted to see if anyone else heard of the good hip theory. I know hip displaysia (sp?) runs big in the Retriever and pretty much all pure dog breeds. On a brighter note, We'll probably have puppies in about 9 months if anyone wants one.

We have a rescue dog- part golden- that did this when she was a pup. I used to say she was froggin, like a top water bait. Stopped when she got older and the vet said all was good, just like when we were younger and limber!!

Both my labs do it. One is 8 the other is 2.

Both my dogs do it, when they come in from outside when it's hot. A good tip for good hips, is buy a pup from a good pedigree with a history of good hips. Good breeders will guarantee hips for 24 months.

I wish my new pup would lay like that for a minute or 2. Friggin Tasmanian devil won't stay still long enough.
