Offshore trout Report 8/23
2 Attachment(s)
Gasper Master, two teenage cousins and I made the trip offshore for a Saturday morning trout trip. Seas were slick and it was a scorcher but ended up with a good haul of specks, some white trout and a lagniappe Triple Tail for the day.
Started out at first spot with a really good white trout bite but 870 noticed fairly quickly that the specks where biting at or near the surface. Switched to a different retrieve and we were able to put close to 40 specks in the box Along with about 20 of the bigger white trout. All fish caught on plastic, today color and style seemed to make a difference.
Fishing slowed down so we went on the move to look at some coordinates I had saved in my gps and wanted to scout. First spot had about 5 boats sitting on it so we didn't stop there. Second spot had two boats fishing it but we were able to drift to the edge of the hole without getting within cast distance of the other two boats. Started talking to guys on one boat they were steady pulling in white trout but only had 2 specks in the boat. We tried fishing the top and quickly put close to 20 specks in the boat before the bite stopped. The other boat didn't know what to say but we let them know what we were doing different and they put a few specks in the boat before they went home for the day.
Scouted around some more then made the run back to the launch. On the way in we saw a Triple tail and I turned the boat around and one of my cousins was able to get it to take a matrix shad after a perfect cast in front of his face.
We all had a great time and learned a few more tricks to put some fish in the box.
