Rig Rod

Hey all. I have zero experience offshore, and limited experience in nearshore waters. My sister in law wants to set my brother in law up with a good rod (she says rod, so I'm assuming he has a reel, or she already bought him one) for fishing from his oil rig that sits in about 300 feet of water. They typically catch snapper, grouper, and amberjack where he is, and per the pictures, the fish generally range from 20-50 pounds. Any suggestions for a good sturdy rod are welcome. I know she's not looking to break the bank, but maybe a value selection, and a mid range priced one. I'd guess she's looking to spend $50-125 on the rod. Thanks in advance for any help.

Going to be hard pressed to find an offshore rod at that price range. Is she looking for spinning or casting?

I have a little more info. The rod has to be 6 feet or less, and she is looking for a reel too. One that can hold 200 yards of 80-100 pound braid. Any options for a combo in the $150-250 range?

I'd guess spinning. It has to be shorter to get on the chopper.

And I'm really just gauging it for her. The price is a rough guide. Just let me know some good values in your opinion, and I'll pass them on.

Have you looked into all the rig hands that were busted getting off choppers .

Make shore all regs are followed but I bet you or she will get tired of all the stories out there. I think many many got busted and lost polls etc.
