Drones + Fishing = Awesome

[SIZE=3]Have you been paying attention to the sky above the marsh? If you have been, then you would have seen an unusual looking and sounding bird up there. Except for one thing...

It's not a bird.

Check out this YouTube video: Using a Drone to Scout for Fish

Dang, us office fishermen can use this to find ol' W fishin' spots! They even have gps on that drone. Gonna be hard to figure 8 a plane though....

CaptainDevin 01-31-2014 01:48 PM

Oh, it can perform a figure 8 to hold a position. No problem there!

swamp snorkler 01-31-2014 02:41 PM

he's saying the boat can't figure 8 the drone

MarshRat89 01-31-2014 06:56 PM

Man could you imagine the possibilities? You can scout for ducks and geese from the camp.

bgizzle 01-31-2014 07:04 PM

Exactly what I was thinking

Yep or snag it with a 3/8oz yellow mouth jig and bring it down to earth and reverse engineer it like a insurgent.

People have shot at it in St. Bernard.

The Marine Corps also tested the feasibility of shooting down a small UAS. (they were testing the DragonEye). They were unable to do so.

It's hard but if I ever get a spare I'd love to try it out myself.

I'd be more worried about the accurate casting of a Louisiana fisherman than most Marines though!

I'd throw a double rig that had 1/4oz jigheads on it.

I wonder if they tried a shotgun.

Math geek could take that thing down with his potato gun bait launcher

Loneshark 02-01-2014 11:16 AM

Are you flying in FPV(first Person view)? I would assume you were since you have the GPS mounted but didn't see a monitor or goggles when it showed you launching from the back of your truck.

No, they used a SAW, M240 and M2. They did hit the plane, but it just holes in the airfoil and did not down it.

The plane won't get close enough for a shotgun. I would try using a potato cannon with a net in the payload.

I have seen those depleted uranium shells for shotguns. I would be interested to try that.

Yes, I do. I fly the plane LOS on launch until I can get it to a couple hundred feet. Then I switch it from manual control over to autopilot so I can sit down and put the goggles on.

If I have my partner to throw the plane for me then I just leave my goggles on.
