Boat Drivers Insurance!!!!

I just got off the phone with State Farm in reference to my boating insurance. It seems that the only persons that are allowed to 'drive' my boat are the names listed on my policy as a driver. If a claim is made on my boat and it is determined that the driver was not listed on my policy, then they will not pay the claim. This includes wife, kids, brother in law, friend, etc. Before anyone is allowed as a driver, they 'check' their driving record out and the rate is adjusted accordingly. My advice: Get with your insurance agent to find out how your policy reads. If anyone knows of a better policy, let me know.

I insure my boat through Boat US.

They cover the boat and not the driver. Obviously as long as your operating within the law (not drunk etc) they will cover damage to the insured boat regardless of who you allow to operate it.

Forunately i have never had to file a claim with them. Based on what i have read on the internet about folks who have had to file claims with them they do a quick efficient job.

I do know that their rates were competitive for me.

I switched to them from progressive insurance after progressive's rates went up almost 250% in one year. This occurred when i moved from maryland to louisiana. Guess they think all this good saltwater fishing is gonna make me use my boat more - therby strongly increasing the likelyhood of damage..

You do have to maintain a boat us membership to get the INS... but at 15$ or so a year with a lot of perks i don't mind.

Not sure how boat u.s. handles personal policies but their guide policies Exclude any coverage if alcohol is involved.
Charter Lakes, I am the exclusive agent for them in Lake Charles.

Charter has a great policy for boats. I insured my new boat with Raymond for way more coverage and $500 a year cheaper than state farm.
