Shimano Spirex 2000- Drag-HELP

Having problems with drag, as drag pulls out, the adjustment on front of reel tightens completely down , to the point of no drag or slippage,
Loosen, try again, same result, what is wrong or am I doing wrong???

drag

if everything is aligned it may be dirty between the knob and spool making it stick,,,,clean it up good and put a small drop of oil on the knob.

That is exactly what I did before posting issue, no change, give me some more ideas before I trash a good reel

you could try and pull the wire snap and clean all the drag washers but only thing I know of is contact between the adjustment knob and spool...try it with the adjustment loose and see if it still turns. did you happen to take drag washers apart and lose one and maybe you're screwing down too far....or have oil on the drag....I was checking an old one I got and there is also 2 Phillips screws under the adjustment knob make sure they tight....I've been using these reels longer than I can remember and have never had that problem.....

Reel Repair

I would be glad to clean and repair the reel for 20.00 plus parts.
If I can't repair the reel there will be no charge.

Thanks Reelman

shot in the dark here, do you have braid or mono on the reel?

if it is braid you need 20 ft or so of mono backing line between the spool and the braid. I have also heard electrical tape on the spool but have not tried it.

Mono on bottom, braid on top
