Croakers

Is there any place to buy bait sized croakers around big lake? If not is there a way to get them or a good place to cast net them?

Crabman has them last I stopped, may want to call first to verify though.

Ask W everyone knows Big Lake trout don't eat croakers. Only Sparkle Beetles.

Only good place to cast net for croakers, that I know of, is back in East Cove Unit [SE corner of Big Lake.....ie. Grand bayou]. Go through the weir and take a right. Go 300 yards to where there is a "fence" across the bayou.

Cast net on either side of the boat opening. DO NOT cast net close to the opening, or you may get the net caught on the bottom. Also you can usually catch bait fish inside the Grand bayou wier......out just past the 250 foot legal fishing distance.

There are some places you can catch Croakers or other bait fish along the ship channel near points and drop-offs where the water is moving. Sometimes shad are better bait than finger mullet or croakers. Keep the live well water circulalting and you might have to put a frozen bottle of water in the live well to keep them alive.

@ .42 cents each.......I may start selling them.

But......when you figure in cost......I came out with about $ 24 per 100 profit. Now if you catch more than 100, the profit goes up.
