Son Wants an Xbox

My son will be seven in a week. He keeps saying he wants an xbox. He already plays his much older stepbrothers Play. Station a good bit. He's a good kid and already like to shoot, fish and hunt. I just worry that getting him an Xbox will ruin that for me.

When I grew up we had no Xbox or even videos. We could go to an arcade and play pinball but that was about it. I know times change but seems like kids these days just don't play outside much. My son does love to swim in our pool and play catch with me and he's already playing baseball, basketball and going to cub scouts but I am just not sure about the game thing.

So, for you younger fellas that have played lots of Xbox and other games what do you think?

For you fellas that have already purchased game players for your kids do you regret the purchase or do you find that you can manage your kids interest in the outdoors and sports by limiting time on the game playing things?

I had em when i was younger but i always chose fishing or hunting over sittin at home playn games... So i guess it just depends... If hes already got the love for outdoors im sure it will outweigh the gaming when it comes down to it.

Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android dominating the world!)

He does have a love for the outdoors. He would rather go shooting than anything.

I am an avid gamer. Have been that way all my life. I would much rather be on the water than playing games. Also my kids will have some sort of gaming system. I would much rather have them at home playing games or on the water with me than running the streets getting into trouble.

I dont have kids but if it were me I'd let him have an xbox and just put some rules down from the beginning .. I dont see it as a problem till its an all day everyday thing IMO

just make sure he knows having an xbox is a privilege not a right. Set limits he can play on it a day if you want to. Just set some ground rules like was stated earlier and enforce them

Top Dawg 06-21-2013 07:03 PM

X2 on setting rules. And they have age restrictions on certain games for a reason

rules and time limits. Or make him earn the privledge of playing it by doing certian chores.

um sorry alphaman, im gonna have to disagree with you on that one.

Don't buy an xbox period... either a Xbox one or the older one.

the Xbox one will require an always on connection to microsoft, You will not be able to use used games on it, and games you buy for it can only be used by you... never traded or given to friend or borrowed etc.. So in summary you have to have it connected to the internet all the time. it has a camera on it that can be controlled remotely (don't even get me started on all the conspiracy theories floating around about that) and you will have to pay full retail price of over 65$ / game to play on it.

compared to PS4 coming out at the same time.... no online requirement, you can trade your games in/ with friends etc.... and it has the same level of graphics and power that the Xbox one has.

Both have VERY robust online gaming communitys as well.

Personally i play on a PC because i hate hand controllers.

As far as is it wise to let him have it... truth is he is going to play them somewhere sooner or later... you might as well have a game for him to play on, so that you can ensure he doesn't go overboard and only play that, and you can also jump in every once in a while and play with him... it can be some pretty fun stuff.

G'luck.

My kids can ONLY play on the weekends at night before bed, or if it is raining and we have exhausted all resources.

No playing on our phones during the week either.

alright well it looks like i am a bit wrong about this, It seems after some serious post E3 backlash microsoft has dropped there always on requirement and dropped the requirement to not be able to trade games you have bought...

with that said... here's a comparison chart http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS...mparison_Chart

I would say that the PS4 is just a tad better than the XB1 because its using GDDR5 memory... but that's probably made up with XB1's having a slightly better processor.

but at 100$ cheaper... and considering all the crap the microsoft tried to pull... i would go sony all day.
