Yep.. In donaldsonville. My BIL works there but he was already off for the day. Another guy I know was working a turnaround in that unit but is ok.

What kind of plant?

outcast 06-14-2013 08:56 PM

Nitrogen

Just heard there's one dead. Can't say that's confirmed tho. PRAYERS SENT!
These 2 plants are probably less than 10 miles as the crow flies.

Their a company like Air Products or PraxAir?

Fertilizer plant......one dead.....a name is out there, but I will not repeat it before I see it confirmed.

Something to do with a Nitrogen truck?? But as I understand it, nitrogen is not explosive.

I was told a nitrogen header blew. We won't know until the official word comes out.

Rocky Morris is the name I have been given. It's family of a friend.

Too bad really but, this is why I no longer work in the industry. There are just too many variables in the field.

My heart goes out to the lost.

I read in yesterdays paper that this was an ethelyne unit like sasol and westlake has probably.... ethelyne is highly flamable. Ethelyne leak + ingnition source = big boom

southern151 06-16-2013 12:55 PM

It was a nitrogen header that got overpressured. Header was fed from a transport truck. One employee is the husband of a friend. He is still in ICU and, some serious surgeries will have to be done to put his leg back together.
