Which Boca Bearings to Buy?

i know there are some older posts, but want to get everyone's updated opinion. Which ones should i get? Stainless Steel, Ceramic?? Orange Seals? Lube them?

I have both stainless and the orange seals, only thing about he orange seals is that you have to clean them more often to keep performance up.

I have the orange seal and the one under it and can't tell the difference. But def a big upgrade.

When both are clean, is there a pretty noticble difference between the two? Do the ceramics have to be cleaned more , or just oiled more often? Are you using them in fresh, saltwater, or both?

When oiled and cleaned the ceramics do perform slighty better than the stainless, and i do have to clean them more often it seems. I recently pulled the orange seals off with some tweezers and it did help with amount of time i was cleaning them. I use them primarly in saltwater, hope this helps.

when you say clean them, what do you do? Also, what type of oil do you use?

flounder_smacker 06-10-2013 09:41 AM

If u run the orange seals take the seal off and run dry. Putting oil only slows them down and collects dirt. The good boca stainless with a drop of hotsauce reel lube is pretty much the same as the ceramics. You won't tell unless you free spool spin test them. The ceramics may last a little longer but a good stainless if cleaned regularly will too.

Clean them by taking out bearings and soaking in degreaser.

thanks for all of the input guys.

If u get ceramics do not use hot sauce oil. It will gum up.

I heard that about the ceramics. I was thinking of going with the ABEC-5 ceramics. Should i just run them dry?

I never have but I think it would be a good idea.

That's what I have in my Revo S and I run them dry.

The stainless bearings will spin as long as ceramics if flushed and barely lubed with light oil.

Gasper Master 06-14-2013 10:07 AM

i ended up getting the ABEC-5 ceramic bearings. Should get them next week and will let you know how they are. There is a code to use to get 15% off. Got three bearings for my Shimano Cardiff for $25 with free shipping.
