Rod selection
 

I was looking at fishing rods while in Wally world today, and got to wondering. What is a good setup for bream? I've always heard lighter is better. I've got a medium action, and I think a medium heavy, both berkley cherrywood. I strickly fish with spinning reels, never have gotten into baitcast and I just love spinners. I've also got a 7 foot uglystick, but have no idea what action it is cause it was sitting in the shop and all the words wore off of it. Think it might be a medium light though.

I grew up on the good ole zebco, and fished with whatever PawPaw handed me, so I don't recall what I had. I do recall those rods holding up against all the snags I found, and we caught a lot of bass, bluegill and goggle eye.

Fly rod

This really depends on how you want to catch them.

A fly rod is a "sporting" way to catch bream. A fly rod can also be used a a jig pole / cane pole.

But as for some type of casting method......ultra light rod and reel with 4 lb test line is a fun setup to use to catch bream of some sacks. The ultra light can also be real challanging when a bass takes the bait. There are lots of "tub" type baits that can be used with just a 1/32 oz jig head or put the same jig on a small spinner. On a little bigger reel, you may have to use a 1/16 oz jig head to cast it better. These can be fished with or without a small cork.

Next would be a light weight rod and 6 or 8 lb line. I caught many a fish using to old green Johnson Century spincast reels.
