ammo for 20 gauge

fellows maybe y'all can help. My son is really getting into shooting, about a year ago i gave him my 410 crack barrel that my grandpa gave me, he shoots it all the time. now he has joined the 4h shooting club and he really needs to step up to a 20 gauge automatic. my shootgun knowledge is not very good. I am looking for a 20 guage youth model for him now. my question is what ammo should i get for him to skeet shoot with??? and what should i stay away from!

thanks, Fun w son

just get him some #7.5 or #8 lead. If you are worried about kick get the 2.75 inch

buy bulk.......... cabelas or cheaperthandirt.com both have cases (250 rounds) for $70-$90

Low Brass #8 is all he needs, also get a reloader, save hulls, lead shot shells are easy to reload with good hulls

Academy had some cases on sale for like $49/ case. Lead #8

coach

If part of shooting sports of 4-H check with agent or coach for shells. There was a program with Federal where team could order shells and was running about 50 dollars a case. It has been a couple years since I was involved and not sure if it still being offered. May want to check with other parishes that may be involved in shooting sports and see if you can order with them if they participate. Great to hear youth involved.
If shooting skeet-7.5-8 is good even 9's. If 5 stand or trap or windy may want to stay around 7-7.5.

You should be able to find shells $5-6 a box at academy and walmart

Any info on a gun for him. I would like to get something that will grow with him. He's 11 now and I would like to get something he can use for years.

If you buy a youth gun now you'll be having to buy a new gun in 2 years, but he'll prob want a 12 by then anyway. Try to get away with not buying a youth model
