Anyone know what this is?

Montauk17 01-22-2013 09:22 AM

Palmetto? :D

Background is Palmetto but not the 4 or 5 leaves in center. Seen it before but no idea what it's called.

Is it a vine? If so, its either ladies ear drops also called redvine (Brunnichia cirrhosa) or crossvine (Bignonia capreolata). Looks more like crossvine. Most vines are preferred deer browse (even poison ivy)

Never heard of anyone being allergic to it

jchief 01-22-2013 04:47 PM

Thanks. Trying to figure out what eats me up in the woods.

Lake Chuck Duck 01-22-2013 04:48 PM

Red bugs?

jchief 01-22-2013 05:04 PM

No. It is contact dermititis which is from something like poison ivy

Hebert 01-22-2013 07:27 PM

coonass tobacco?

Gerald 01-23-2013 12:48 AM

Have you been around a fire where they are using wood that could have a poison ivy on it? That could cause your itching.

jchief 01-23-2013 08:02 AM

No sir Gerald. It is some kind of vine I am sure.

Duck Butter 01-24-2013 09:04 AM

Are you sure you haven't run across poison ivy? Most of the big vines on the oaks out there are poison ivy and just from contact on the vine and not the leaves can get you.

jchief 01-24-2013 05:41 PM

Could be. Is there a way to identify the vines?

Goooh 01-24-2013 06:37 PM

I've got it bad from vines even after hard freeze... Thought it died off, leaves were gone. Nope, that oil is still potent up in there!

bgizzle 01-24-2013 10:52 PM

Them vines that look like they old? That poison ivy? Like the dark colored ones? They may answer my questions 2 my buddy said that ain't what that is but when I get it, it's not like a poison ivy I get from the leaves or usual suspect its closer to skin and more like just red swole n itchy not bumps and doesn't spread. I'm the same way can't figure it out thought it was chiggers then got into chiggers that ain't it now I'm dumbfounded and just hunt boxes don't get in trees or go into thickets and problem solved

Mark the location on your GPS and come back in the spring and take pictures of the leaves on the vine. Post the pic. and we will identify vine for you.

Some areas that I hunt, I walk through knee high poison Ive plants and I don't get it.

My wife has had poison a couple of times in the past several years. She never goes anywhere that there is poison Ive. She has to go to the doctor and get special treament to get rid of it. She blames me....go figure.

jchief 01-25-2013 08:41 AM

If it is the bigger vines, the leaves would be in the top of the tree correct?
