First Trip to I-10
4 Attachment(s)
Never fished the I-10 bridge area before but decided to give it a try this morning. Dropped the yak in under the bridge at daylight and paddled all around the area to ck it out. Found some stripped bass busting top water around the train bridge and caught a few, kept 2 nice ones to try for dinner. Never ate one before. After picking up drove around Lakeshore Dr and saw boats all over that area. How far into the winter does that area hold fish?

cut all the red meat off the striper filets and they eat good.
Great catch man! I have never caught stripped bass in my life! I think we seen ya this morn when we were goin out in our yaks...
Nice catch and great pics
That's nice!!!!
I caught 5 Stripers on 3 different trips last year. None so far this year.
Caught a nice striper a few months ago directly under the I-10 bridge. Nice trip
I never even knew we had stippers here. Lol
That catch kicks tail and nice striper catch.

If you hang out at the Train Bridge you can see the striped bass boiling up on the surface on shad. The birds would come in and swarm above them. Wish I would have had a spoon or rattle trap in the yak, think that would have been something they would have liked more than plastics. Lb for lb they fight as good as any fish.
Broiled all 3,trout, reds and striped filets. Reds & striped tasted almost the same, trout a little better. |
wow..saltwater stripers in the gulf? used to love catching stripers in the Chesapeake bay!..they are good eating for sure!
These are hybrids that were released in the freshwater side of the Calcasieu River about 3 or 4 years ago.
Nice catch

Yup, those pics show Hybrids, not Stripers. They are about the same though cept the Hybrids don't get as big as a pure Striper
Was that the I-10 bridge or I-210 (never fished the area). I might like to take my kids to catch some of those Hybrids, I am sure they would have a blast.

Go North of the barrier. There were several thousands let loose up there.
A few get thru the barrier when boats go thru. Not as many South as North of the barrier. |
