Big Lake this Weekend

I need some advice. I want to go to Big Lake this weekend, but see the forecast is very breezy with north winds with the cold front coming in. Should I still go fishing on Saturday? What about Sunday? Should I try to fish Saturday night or evening? I'm pretty flexible coming from Texas, but I really want to fish. If I do decide to fish, where so I go in Big Lake (besides, just look for the birds)? I'm looking for trout, flounder or redfish, but prefer trout. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Saturday A 20 percent chance of rain before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. North wind 15 to 20 mph.

specktator 10-24-2012 09:11 AM

That means 20-25

You are asking for punishment by being out there, its gonna be a nice day to be outside but not on the water:)

Do you think birds will still work if the winds get above 15 mph?

you will waist your time fishing birds.....its all sand trout and real small trout....if you catch 15 you will have one keeper

fishingonewild 10-24-2012 03:56 PM

yea i agree with w wudnt be worth it to be fishing the birds latetly .. and also im very aware them birds arent gonna take a risk to be flying in more than 15 mph winds and not only that if the water gonna be really choppy they aint gonna get much baits for them to catch...

Every year its getting worst and worst with Small trout, no way we should ever have this many small trout in almost December

This is the down fall on our 15 trout limit reduction

Unreal how its killing our size

Every year its has gotton worst

Who in the hell ever heard of catching 11inch trout in October and November

If there is any weekend you go make it this weekend. Fish leave the marsh at an epic rate when you get a North wind like this. A mass exodus of Reds and flounder...Specks schooling all over the bays feeding on shrimp that have left the marsh.....This is what fall fishing is about.

so before the reduction, there were no 11 in trout around? They were all 12 or greater? Where were that years fish or the year before that? You are reaching for cause and effect, but I will digress as to not hijack the thread

Waco, when I think of the worst conditions to fish it involves a front coming thru the night before and strong north winds the next day. You can catch fish in those conditions but if I had the option to not go fishing it would be an easy choice. Good luck if you go, you may be able to stay on the north bank somewhere to stay out of the wind.

Right now we should have few small trout ...trout should be around 16-22 inch female and males 14-18inchs going into winter

But no
... We have 100000000000 10-11 inch trout

Freken overpopulated and every guide on the East Side all agrees

Danny, If you can find another weekend I think maybe you should.

Winds and Gusts look to be pretty bad both Saturday and Sunday.

Mr Paul, Where do you get such a cool forecast? Thanks

wacotiger 10-24-2012 07:36 PM

Thanks Paul. I think we are going to still try, but I understand the conditions will not be ideal.

I'll let you know if I find some fish Friday, that's about the best I can do.

Shoot me a text when you start heading this way.
