Need advice on prop

My son lost my prop off my 40 merc.it will be pushing a 17 foot Carolina skiff also have hydraulic jack plate.like pitch and 3 blade or 4 blade.

I would go with a powertech 13 pitch 3 blade....the prop shop in lafayette usually has them in stock.

X2. That's the most common setup for that motor.

13 pitch?

redaddiction 05-27-2012 01:30 PM

Yea, what montauk said.

I would go with the black painted stainless yamaha prop in a 14 pitch. Way better prop than a powertech. I have a power tech and it runs like crap. I tried my buddy's black painted yammy prop and got way more speed and rpms

hankscke123 05-27-2012 01:53 PM

Yea but if u run to many Rpms can't be good on motor and does yam and merc interchange

Top Dawg 05-27-2012 02:01 PM

Yea they do. If you run too many rpms your rev limiter will hit. My rev limiter kicks in at 6200 rpm. With a 14p black yammy prop I can hit the rev limiter empty and with a load I can run right at 6000 rpm and that's where my motor runs best and best on fuel. I have a tohatsu 40. But I had a merc 40. The powertech from what I understand is a cheap imitation of the yamaha prop. It's heavier and don't run near like a yamaha prop. Cajun Christian can tell you more about it than I can.
