Vermilion Bay West Side 3/28/12

Made a trip with dad and two uncles yesterday for a little friendly tournament, categories: heaviest red, and a red with the most spots, and a catfish category. Fished the bay and managed 8 reds, and 2 flounder by noon, then stopped at a weir where we picked up 2 more reds and 2 catfish. Checked in with the uncles around 12:30, and they still didnt have a fish in the boat. To make a long story short, they ended with 2 reds (both around 28 inches that took the pot).

Water conditions: Dirty Dirty Dirty. Not to salty,

I heard that...even more so with the muddy n fresh water. Is there anywhere between Abbeville and intracoastsl to buy fresh shrimp? I hate fooling with the frozen stuff.

Delcambre would probally be the nearest place for fresh shrimp.

Yeah that's pretty far out the way when fishing out of intracoastal. If someone would setup a bait stand with live skrimp, mullet, croaker they could make a killing during the summer months.

really nice to know you all were doing good at the west side of VB - reds will surely be around in the middle week of April through late Fall. and, specks are supposed to be on way to a few reefs soon when saltinity level is good enough. thanks for the report on the west side of VB!
