flying
running

Naw cuz, I did hear TU (Turkeys Unlimited) was putting a bunch out up north and it was 'shortstopping' the turkeys from coming south though:rotfl:

superthrill 03-20-2012 12:43 PM

Underground tillers and heated fields!!! Anyone wanna sponsor a "turkey pothole" in north louisiana? It's for the best...

superthrill 03-20-2012 12:45 PM

Actually make that cooled fields. Gotta keep global warming in mind.

I don't turkey hunt and am just curious...why would you not shoot a turkey "on the roost?" Seems like if I'm hunting a bird and come across one sitting in a tree it's coming down. Is it illegal? Is it an ethics thing? Is it hard to get a clean kill shot?

fishfighter 03-20-2012 01:31 PM

ethics

I would guess ethics I am sure it goes along the same line as only shooting ducks that are flying and not sitting on the water but just my guess:confused:

Ethics, you didn't really 'hunt' the bird, its also not a high percentage shot. A duck sitting on the water is very ethical! You fooled it, and it doesn't waste any meat

superthrill 03-20-2012 01:38 PM

Ethics. And although I'm no expert, I'm sure you wouldn't get a clean shot due to the fact that you it doesn't seem likely that one could sneak up close enough to a roosin' bird to get that clean shot.

What Butter said.

I see. Yea, I feel the same way about a duck on the water. If it is a good distance from me I will take a shot on the water. I have hunted with guys that prefer to make a noise and take the bird as it is getting off the water.

I take em anyway I can. Even been know to shoot em wit a rifle. :)

PBJ 03-20-2012 02:41 PM

Call em, sneak em. ambush em, roost em. Whatever it takes.

Following that list.........would eliminate one of my kills.

Top Dawg 03-20-2012 08:42 PM

I've shot several flying...

specktator 03-20-2012 08:58 PM

I shot my biggest turkey on the run. But did make the mistake of trying a 50 yard shot. Won't do that again.

Duck Butter 03-21-2012 10:29 AM

Well since we are getting a TON of water, I think the best thing for the turkeys would be to give them a break during this turkey season. They are going to be put under a lot of stress this year with the water levels. I am saying this in order to help out the turkeys of course. :grinpimp:

Goosepond Monster 03-21-2012 02:01 PM

Do you guys have the eastern turkey in Louisiana or is it one of the other subspecies?

specktator 03-21-2012 02:02 PM
