Houston River and Holbrook

Launched out of Anthony Ferry, water looked great... Flipped, jiged, cranked and beetle spun for about the first hour and a half with no bites...

Moved on towards Holbrook, got sidetracked in a drain which on any other given day should have produced, worked past Fool and his "Possie of Paddlers" to the bend with the blue slide and started fishing with the current back down south...

Caught three pickles from the slide to the south end of the park, ran back down and caught a couple at the intersection of Houston River and Westfork... Hit the drains again on the way back to the launch and picked up a couple more pickles.... Wind started howling and boat traffic was getting interesting so I bagged it for the day...

If anyone likes to haunt the garfish, Holbrook is the place to be... That big bend with the slide on the west side of the river was on fire with big gar today...

All fish caught on Watermelon Red Brush Hogs (full size) slung right up next to the cypress trees...

Looks fishy to me. For some reason Westfork seems to be tough right now.

Not tough, just small fish. I got a few decent fish on beds on westfork I'm saving for a tour on Saturday. Going to be doing some running on Saturday.
Yesterday was a good eye opener for me on the main river.
North Westfork seems to be toughest though.

I am glad it is not just me not catching out of Anthony Ferry. I have even gone up river towards to 27 and its the same. Its a shame cuz the water is so pretty. Last yr at this time I was hammering bass and white perch on shinners. This year nothing.

I agree, but also remember that we running pretty warm for this time of year and are 10" above average rainfall with more on the way ...

It will settle down eventually and we will get back to steady slingin' before you know it :D
