Is the East End Locks @ Rockefeller re-open yet after the construction project is completed?

He is talking about the shallow canals on the east side. Some of the canals you will be ok....some you need a tunnel or mud motor. Alot of sharp 90 degree turns too.

The " launch " on the east side near the locks, did they ever put in or install a cement launch? Anything was better than just a limestone one that drops off .....quick!!!

You should be able to launch a 21', However if the tide is low you may have trouble. As for as water depth, the LSU canal does get shallow on low tide(1.5 to 2'). I went there on Sunday 4th on low tide with a 20' baystealth w 150 yam. had no problems. all other canals should be ok. East side lock road was closed and it appeared that they are still working on bulkheads along the road. The 2 launches were installed about 3 years ago and are cement but somewhat short for a larger boat. all canals on the east side are deep enough to travel, if you can put in at eastlocks.. Sunday the east lock was open (cannot cross through), this main canal goes to superior canal and branches off to others

They have it for one well as of right now under contract for 365 days. Its Unit Drilling rig 201. It currently has the record for the deepest well drilled in the US. And is the largest US land based drilling rig available. So just to say its gonna be there a while!!

Tete Dur 03-08-2012 05:03 AM

I passed by it yesterday while doing some work out there. That rig is massive!! It is almost like they set up a small city out there.

I have seen 24 foot boats on almost every occasion I have been there, but yes the ramp drops off quick at low tide

saltysully 03-08-2012 07:32 PM

Is anyone catching crabs and/or shrimp?

Locks

Hi Guy!! The Article you're refering to? Is your's truly. I called the HD Qtrs today.

They indicated MAYBE APRIL 1st as of today forthe launches behind the locks to be open.

They indicated although they have the Locks OPEN?? DO NOT GO Threw them.

SO in essence; they have the east end of the reserve CLOSED.

Thanks

BIGGUN

I took my 24 foot center console on the east side a while back. I went all the way to the back to Big Constance without any issues. The boat ramp is a little short, so if you have a long boat just watch the signs for the end of the ramp, don't let your trailer fall off the launch.

When it's on - The Rock truly is the land of milk n honey!! Ya got ur gimme reds, gimme crabs, and usually gimme shrimp, all within a mile or two. Usually plenty plenty bait to be had, if you're into that kind of thing. Good times!!!
