Cork and Bait Question

What kind of corks do you prefer? Popping corks, Egg shaped corks, with or without the wire with weights and beads attached?

Also, what do you like fishing under a cork and how deep? New to speck fishing and all I have ever fished were DOA's under a cork.

Reason I ask about the cork is b/c we caught a few trout this weekend and my buddy had way more fish hit his rig than mine. I was fishing with an egg shaped cork with the wire, beads, and weights. he was fishing with a popping cork with the wire, beads, and weights...

Marshworks big poppy. Best cork on the market

I prefer the popping cork ,with the beads and the flexible wire. The stiff wire gets bent and wont allow the beads to slide freely. Bait depth varies with each person ,I use an 18" flourocarbon leader tied to the cork. I have seen from 12" to 36" just depends on what works best for you.

I switch up from using a egg shape to a cigar shaped to a big poppy like cork, sometimes you got to switch up the shape, I like to use the ones with the wire weights and beads, then have a 1/8oz jighead about 2 ft deep. but I really like to catch them just on a jighead with a plastic bait fishing on bottom.

Doesn't sound like the cork was the problem.
Mostly depends on what's under the cork. Ie. Leader, jig head, bait, and action. Its hard to beat a doa under a cork..

Proly what you had between the two that was the problem

I don't use corks often but sometimes use a sparkle beetle under a clip on rattle cork.

sometimes I take a cork put a double or even a triple rig off of it and try to catch a couple at a time! this works better on the bottom though!

Green sparkle beetle with red dot under a popping cork means trout death

it really doesn't matter what type cork I like, I try to give the fish what they want, it works out better that way!
