Possible, Impossible, or just plain stupid???

I know this is probably more for the offshore side but I figure most people on the Inshore forum could relate. Me and two of my buddies want to make a snapper trip out of venice. I choose venice b/c i was told you only have to go 8-10mi out for snapper. I have a 2110 Nautic bay and do not want to run to far out. I'd rather not drive that far so if anyone knows where I can catch snapper within 15 mi of the coast besides venice let me know. I live in Lafayette btw. Has anyone on this site been snapper fishing in a similar size rig? Or am I crazy for trying? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And of course I will definatly be watching the wind forecast!!!

Ton's of people in our area travel 30-40 (from Cyp Point launch) then maybe 15-20 miles out of the pass just to catch trout when the go to EI, SMI, or VR blocks in bay boats... You'll be more than fine in your boat and you don't have to go all the way to Venice you can go out of FWC, Cocodrie, or even Grand Isle to just catch Snapper.

We went 50 miles out in Dink's 19' boat! Keep in mind, it's a Cape Horn but, we did it two days in a row out of GI.

Dink 07-11-2011 12:43 PM

We weren't more than 30 out, but did alot of zigzagging!! Stupid Loop!

Let me know when you wanna go and ill go in mine 2.....just in case someone needs a tow or something

I have been out 40 miles in vinice before in some nasty weather in my 18' a bunch of times but we had several boats going out so I had help if I needed.

Big Flounder & I know a 1st class dumb azz that would go out 30-40 miles in the
evening in a 16' aluminum flat with a 40 Merc tiller, full FRC's & steel toe boots after work! Dumb azzez like that won't ever have anything happen though.

Some people have way more balls then brains. I remember going to nickle reef south of marsh island and see fools in 14' flats.

I hve too. One time I left Burns right at daylite and in 1-2 footers and pull up to the nickle and there is a 14' flat with a 25 tiller already there anchored and fishing. I was like ***?

i would like to take my 18.5 foot striper vhull offshore but would only do it if i had a buddy boat. Or i had someone on board that frequented going out. the boat is definitely offshore worthy, although shorter than most bay boats, i got alot of FREEBOARD.and hold 62 gallons..
that would be cool if we got some salty dudes together and try to load up on red snappers and hopefully pull in 100+ triple tails...j/j.

wtretrievers 07-11-2011 01:09 PM

I watched three Big dudes in a 14' bateau paddle "UP" river in the Miss River one morning, couldn't have been 2" of boat out the water.

Dink 07-11-2011 01:15 PM

One of y'all get with me......going outta somewhere this weekend.....gotta watch the winds first, but its always funner and safer with another boat

We are gonna go Sunday if the weather report is favorable. I got some good info from fishinpox and a buddy of mine who has a camp in venice. Gonna leave out of venice marina around 6 a.m. A buddy boat would be nice to have along. PM me if anyone is interested. And thanks for all the info. I love this site!!!!
