4th of July fishing rodeo

Southwest louisiana fishing club is putting on our annual fishing rodeo scheduled for next weekend. Last year was cancelled due to the oil spill. Were hopin to have a big success this year there's an inland division, offshore, fly and scuba. Captains night is tomorrow night at the fishing club. There will be food drinks silent auction and raffle. If you plan on fishing the rodeo entry is $10 cheaper at captains night. Hope some of y'all show up.

wish they would offer more money for the prizes. With the price of fuel and oil these days a little incentive might entice more entrants. Just sayin. One year( think it was 1998) we spent around $1000 fishing out of Venice and I won the dolphin division and a guy who caught a gafstop catfish won $2000. Just does not make sense to me economically. I wish they would get a big time sponsor like a casino and offer some real money. I did hear that several years ago (like 15 or so) that Player's Island casino offered to cough up some real money but wanted the weigh in at their casino and the fishing club said no thanks and kept the weigh in at their clubhouse.

The Isle of Capri casino in Biloxi used to have a big time marlin tournament and it brought in beaucoup bucks.

Just my humble opinion.

I agree. It's mostly about bragging rights these days. The proceeds go to childrens miracle network and to be honest the club makes no money. Hard to get sponsors. It's everything we can do to keep the tournament goin without coming out in the hole. Mostly for tradition and bragging rights.
