Duck Leases around Lafayette area??

A guy I work with is looking for a lease to get on around lafayette to duck hunt. He is wanting a place were he can drive his 2 wheel drive truck to and unload his kayak and get to a blind. Let me know if any of y'all know of anything and I will relay the message to him!
Thanks fellers

I have been trying to find somewhere myself....damn near impossible without spending 5 grand a year. I love to duck hunt, but that is insane.

You will need to check out Kaplan and places towards the West of there. Good luck, most rice field blinds are running at least 5K plus it is very hard to find something. However, to off set the cost just try to find a few other guys to split it with. Over the past few years, the lease I am in, we are splitting it 3 ways.

5k a year to hunt ducks is crazy if you ask me. Can make alot of guided trips for that kind of money. I pay 500 bucks a year at our deer lease, just can't see spending that kind of cash unless you wipe with 100 dollar bills.

if you split it 3 ways it is only $1,666 per person. Hell a guided duck hunt is at least 200 bucks. I usually hunt at least 25-30 days and this is not counting teal season.

SS, this kind of place only exist in someone's dreams. The reality today, is there are no longer places with in 35 miles of Lafayette that kill ducks. Urban sprall (sp) and cane farming have pushed ducks into the marsh. There are no rice field blinds in south La that are worth what they are going for either. If your buddy doesn't know this already he is probably very "Green" and will learn the hard way but learn he will. His best bet is to get involved with Delta/DU and work his butt off for some of the more well healed members and hope it pays dividends down the road. Duck blinds are just like dogs; you don't want to lease or buy one out of the classifieds.

Areas to avoid; Liberty Farm Rd off of hwy 13, anything west of Laf-Crowley, South of Crowley to Morse, Rice fields around Parks-Henderson-St Martinville,Whiteville-Kazan's Lake.

Hope this helps to keep him from wasting his hard earned $$$$.

Tell him to call Apache and get on the waiting list for a marsh blind. They may have already filled there leases, but he can get on the list.

He may have to a buy a little duck boat and hunt Lacassine or Sabine. Good hunting, but you have to work for them. He could use his Yak too.

Good luck to him. I have been looking for a good one since Rita.

Last year the lease I had in Kaplan had not had rice planted since 2005. We had a butt load of INDIGO and wild grass (which I think is better than rice) and we paid 5K.....but we did kill 321 ducks for big ducks season which I think is great for a rice field type blind...almost half of what we killed were mallards, greys, and pins.

thats a great season in my eyes!!!!!

My buddies and I have a 320 acre lease and a camp in pecan island. Camp for the season runs us about $1600 and lease about $5000. We got 5 of us and split it 5 ways so its not bad. Good to try and get a few buddies together to help out with costs of everything even building blinds, go-devils, decoys, mojos, etc.

Rice field blinds are not bad, it is just hard to find one available that is worth a crap. If someone isn't getting it back or you don't have the inside track on who to see/talk to, it usually isn't good.
