Broken skeg

Running down a bayou; came around a bend and saw a 10-12 ft. gator swimming; he went down and must have turned across the bayou and I whacked 'em running bout 30. Never did see the gator come up.....:(

Broke the skeg off my 175 Suzuki and took a high-speed water pick-up cover for one of my livewells with it. Any recomendation on whrere to take it and how much to get a new skeg welded on?

any welding shop should do it and $150 sounds too much. they just build it back up with alluminum. call around probably $25 to $30. lake charles -- south side welding (joe)

Blackfin skeg. I have one on my flats boat. If you have any part of your skeg left you can install a blackfin over it and itll be good as new. They are made of high impact abs plastic and its held on by strong urethane adhesive. It will take a lick!

$$$ skeg$$$

i get $75 to replace a skeg if it's broken off below the shaft housing. gets a little more complicated if your into the housing. i'm in galveston, little far for you, but i'm sure you'll find someone in your area, just look around for welding shops.

Joe is my cousin he does really good work, i definitely recommend him.

simplepeddler 05-26-2011 10:11 PM

just be careful.......if the thing is broken off close to the gear housing, the welding CAN but not always WiLL damage the seals and cause you much more trouble later on......

From the land of "stupid gear housing repair"
