Lumber return?
 

Guys,
Do any of you know the policy for returning warped deck lumber?
I'm rebuilding my deck and 6 or 7 of the new 16' boards look like a 1 foot wake??
Laid em out Sun.PM (not nailed r screwed yet) tonite they look like overpasses???
Can I return the bad ones? I need 52 more 10 foot planks. Should I buy from another lumber company?

Who did they come from? If they're pressure treated boards, this isn't uncommon. That's why you always screw them down instead of nailing.

yes u can return them if you didn't cut or put holes in them. bring your receipt showing it was recent. if you are using the same company id hand pick them.

Thanks guys! Got em from Lowes. I didn't secure or cut em just laid em on the foundation and left there. If I screw them down will I have any problems in the future?

They'll draw up and expand with the weather. That's why, as I understand it, you leave a 16p gap between em. That way, they have room to move. I've never had any problems when going by this rule as long as you have screwed down with good zinc screws or better.

Pressure treated lumber moves like crazy when not fastened.. The sun dries all the chemicals and moisture .. But yes you can return if not cut... Rule of thumb is screw down deck boards make sure u use ceramic coated deck screws not just galv. Screws

the trick to minimizing warp is to lay them grain down. look at the end of the board you will see the curved lines, thats the rings in the tree. lay them where they point down. that way they wont curl up and looks better after a few years.

don't use galvanized on pressure treated, the juice in the pressure treated wood will rot out the galvanizing on the screws

Start on one end screwing it down until you reach the other end and they will be fine.
