McDonald's National Day of Hiring

As part of a national hiring day, local McDonald's restaurants will be looking to fill a wide range of positions later this month.
April 19 has been designated as McDonald's first national hiring day. The fast-food giant will look to fill 50,000 openings at its restaurants nationwide.
Lynn Petzoldt, operations manager for Short Enterprises, said the restaurants will try to fill positions from crew to managers during the hiring day, but was unsure how many positions would be filled locally.
Short Enterprises in Anna operates several Southern Illinois McDonald's, including ones in Carbondale, Anna, Vienna, Murphysboro and Du Quoin.
Petzoldt said between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 19, store managers will be taking applications in the lobby of the restaurants and interviews will be conducted on site. He said applications can also be completed online.
Petzoldt said the hiring day is a chance for people to get back to work.
"With people out of work and being laid off, it will be an opportunity for some people to pick up some work," Petzoldt said.
Nationwide turnover slowed in the past few years because of the weak economy, the company said in a release. The Oak Brook-based company sees this day as an opportunity to attract employees in a tough job market and to add staff as more of its restaurants stay open 24 hours a day.
McDonald's is also trying to shed the negative connotation of employment at the fast-food chain, once dubbed "McJobs." According to the company, about half of its franchisees and more than 75 percent of its managers started as store workers.
"A McJob is one with career growth and endless possibilities," the company said in a statement.
A similar event in McDonald's Western region last year attracted more than 60,000 applicants for 13,000 positions.

Might be easier for them to get a job if they graduated high school, dress appropriately, speak appropriately, ACT appropriately, detox from crack....if only they tried to represent themselves better...I am sorry but if you don't put work in or act accordingly, you have no place in society.

I am sorry. But **** ghetto women like that. If I had saw that, it would be them on the floor having a seizure. All the black males just standing around. Pathetic. Kinda like what obama is doing in office.
