I was talking to a crab fisherman this weekend and he said that he wished he knew the answere to the same question. Lots of people told me the full moon is great to crab, but I watched the moon and the crabs were empty sometime and full sometime. I was told that its when they molt they become empty and then fill their new body with meat with time. I do know they were full lately though!!!

Same here. I don't look at the moon when we go crabbing.
Sometimes they are full, sometimes they are not, I don't think the moon has anything to do with it.
I think cold makes them bury up and not eat. Never had empty crabs in the summer time.

Lil hint:
Look at the top of the crab toward the back and if there are 2 white spots the crabs are usually full. The more white you see the more meat in them.

I also noticed that if they are muddy/stained they are usually full. If they are pretty and blue they sometime tend to be empty. I dont know, just something I started paying attention to lately. Anybody notice this pattern as well?
