Catfish cypress slate traps

Got me one of these things, but never used one, where is the best place to set them. I'm on the west fork, is this a good place? or do you need current? What should i bait it with?

slat trap

If it hasn't all ready been soaked you need to soak it in the water so that it becomes saturated . that way it will sink. i have seen some bait them w/ catfish cheese or cottonmeal cakes . i usually just set in an area that has a good ammount of catfish . they use it like a log to hide in.

Used to run them on the Oua****a River and had the best luck by (sounds silly but) placing the throat straight down. Hang the trap vertical with the opening down, but about 1 foot off the bottom, the fish will swim up into it. The problem we had with setting them on the bottom was the mud and silt and this took care of it. If you haven't soaked them, just tie a brick or weight a foot from the throat and put the weight on the bottom and suspend the trap. You will catch twice as many this way:)
