Big Lake 7-24-09

Me and Shep started off at a decent hour this morning. Lake was like glass.. Water didnt look to clear first thing this morning. Tried a few reefs on our way to the jettys. Water looked good at the jettys. We even went about 5 miles south east of the jettys to the Hercules rigs and had no luck. Talked with a few guys out there and they were trying the same thing as us... We then went back to the jettys and ended up catching 3 dinks (im not revealing my dink hole "W").. Almost gave up and decided to try some marsh water, and ended up catching 8 nice flounder.. The flounder bite ended up, so we decided to give one more spot a try and no luck.. Shep almost lost his Citica because a "Big Azz Sea Urchin" attacked him...lol... Ended up with 8 flounder and 3 dinks and a fun day..

That reminds me, I have to get back down to Pecan Island and off of Big Lake.

Ducktick....you mentioned Pecan Island.....2 weeks ago this on SAT went 3 of us and we caught 59/60 trout out of freshwater city. We ran only about 6 miles West. Took us about 5-6 hours and caught all on plastic bayou chubs....seemed they wanted the LSU color more than anything else....caught in about 10'-12' deep water. I wish they would black top that road...that 7-9 mile stretch down that gravel road is brutal!! I would think rig 46 is good right now using live croakers since it is about 25-30' deep at that rig.

We gave it a whirl.. Both me and Shep are new to the lake and really didnt know when and where to fish.. We knew the basics thats about it. Im still learning when it comes to saltwater fishing. So any information about fishing for trout offshore would be greatly appriciated. How deep to fish in what depth water, what jig/color..
