I need a new set of tires
 

I am looking for suggestions for new tires. I have a 1995 GMC Suburban K1500. I use it at the beach in the sand and it likes to play in the mud sometimes also. It still has the factory wheels on it. I think they are 8 x 16.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Right now I have some 265/70/16 AT tires on it and would like something a little larger if possible.

BFG MT's are the way to go. I have about 40,000 miles on mine and the are only about half worn. They are a little on the expensive side, but well worthe the extra $$. A set of 285 75 16 will run you 800-900 bucks.

Agree. Bfg.... If Ur not Gettin in really sticky stuff go with the all terrain. Great n sand.
But if u get n the thick stuff more , go mud terrain.

I have had the BFG mud terrains and all terrains in 33's for a 4x4 ranger. The all terrains work great for sand. As for in the mud, they cake up easy and you need to spin them plenty to keep them clean to dig. The mud terrains work great in the mud but will bury you in the sand as they will dig out from beneath you. If you are mostly going to the beach get the all terrains especially with such a heavy truck.

BFG mud t's are great. The micky thompson mtz's are nice too. Im pretty sure you can fit 285/75/16 on that truck

Paul, I suggest going online and finding the size and tire you want to buy.
You will have an internet price to compare to what the dealers in town give you. Don't know all the dealers in our area but there are two that I will never step through the doors again. Last set came from Tom Aday, but I have not had to get service from them yet so I will reserve judgement.

Bfg all the way All terrains for sure if going in sand. Do a good enough job in mud. I have 305 70 16 on my k1500 pick up so i know the 285 will fit.

I have Toyo open country mud terrain and absoulutely love them.

We had a camp on Holly Beach for years. The more aggressive the tread, the farther down they dig.
I had an old '76 CJ-7 with Bridgestone 12.5 X 33's with medium tread. Not too aggressive. They did well in both mud and sand. Went to an aggressive tread and found it dug a lot deeper in the sand, but did a lot better in mud.
You don't need a lot of tread in the sand, you need a wide tire in the sand. Wide is better, except for womens badonkadonks.

285x75x16 should fit on your stock rims. BFG Mud Terrains are decent in mud, terrible in the sand. BFG A/Ts are great in the sand, not too horrible in the mud. I'd personally go with the A/Ts for overall ride quality if you are going to stick with BFG. Had some really good Michelin A/Ts on my Z71 that will last just about forever and had a fairly agressive tread. If you want good tires, buy Michelins. ;)
