has anyone ever heard that you are supposed charge your tm batts. with a 10 amp conventional charger every so often? i have a 3 bank onboard for my tm but the guy at the shop told me to buy a conventional one and use it to gain a better charge once a month . any truth to this

this is a good practice hitting it with a large amp charger will knock anything that is attached to the plates off......now that being said my dad owns a battery company. and none of us do this. as long as your batteries stay fully charged they will be fine. this is mainly for batteries that sit up and stay at an uncharged state which cause the acid and the water to seperate which in turn sulfates the plates

hope this helps

"Trickle" charge is BS! I blasted my batteries with a 4-bank, 60 amp charger for years and never had a problem with them.

adamsfence 06-17-2010 10:16 PM

Yes that is a myth as long as you dont overheat them which a normal charger wont ....they fine as long as it stops when fully charged u can charge them fast as u want to. we charge ours at the shop on wide open

I had a couple of missed calls from Ben in the past couple weeks. He's probably hammerin' 'em in the Sound.

I have a Pro Mariner charger in by big boat. The instructions say if you cycle power on the charger for 5 mintues, it will go into a mode that will clean the plates. Not sure if my Guest charger in the bay boat does that.
Offshore, we have a PM to equalize batteries for 1 hour a week to take care of this.
