Boat Operators

Ok guys, putting a feeler out there!

Our company is in the process of getting people lined up to run some boats for the response/cleanup. The bulk of the work will be driving small work boats w/ outboards to the affected areas from the dock. Sometimes you will wait on site, other times you will be making constant round trips.

You will need to like being on a boat....... a lot! LOL!

You will need to know boats, and I mean how to put the plug in, how to stop a boat without knocking everyone over by hitting the dock, general knowledge of a GPS or Radar, know how to actually talk on a VHF radio and not say "mais what you want me der far - mais' I just left dat spot", and so on.... I bring this up because someone forgot to mention that to the people that have been running some boats out there.

The pay will be $25-$30/hr, working long days, average has been sun up till 18:00 hrs. Lodging will be provided and I am still working out details for per diem, so I will announce that when I get it. I will conduct a Hazwoper course at my office in Lafayette, and we need you to have a TWIC card. I know the TWIC is a big pain for people, but I don't make the rules, I just try to get things done. I am asking for a waiver for the TWIC, but can't promise that.

Count me in. Got my TWIC card already and a good bit of boating experience. The hours aren't an issue. Is it in LA? When? How long?

i got a twic and work as an extractor operator in the industrial field, and have been in boats all my life. how long will it last, where will it be located. do you need full time or part time. overtime after 8 or after 40. any double time? 7 days a week?

flyphisher 05-27-2010 02:23 PM

No twic, but I can take a leave of absence from work here. I can operate any kind of boat, been in and on them for my whole life. My grammar and diction are excellent.

Finfeatherfur 05-27-2010 02:25 PM

OT after 40hrs, work will be spread out from Houma to Mobile.

New baby coming RIGHT NOW! Kinda hard to go too far from home at this time but Houma is easy enough. Let me know somethin.

i've operated boat from the size of pirogues to 40ft barge boats. Got my twic card already. I'm also interested in the overtime question and per diem. Length of job (already employeed fulltime) and if there is part time job offers? And i do LOVE being on boats. Whenever you get more details let me know and I can try to talk to my supervisors to see if we can work something out to where i can go work for ya'll but still have my job here. Maybe i can work for x amount of weeks or months??

Transportation Worker Identification Credential.

Basically a background check on workers that work around any ports accesiable by water.

duckman444 05-27-2010 04:36 PM

twic is another way to steal your money. i have been told by a reliable source that when it expires they are gonna do away with them and they will no longer be required. i know turner employs roughly 22,000. so that times 136.00 is alot of money

Your fine right where you're at, because momma won't let you leave them babies!!! And besides, what would Duckaholic do w/o you at the office?

Finfeatherfur 05-27-2010 04:41 PM

Guys, please continue to send your contact info to my email, I am only able to check this site periodically and I am very surprised at how many people already have their TWIC which is one hang up that was hurting some of the operations.
