V Bay........anybody been lately?

I'll be going to the camp all weekend and I'm gonna do a little fishing. Has anybody been lately or know how the water has been. Has anyone caught any reds lately?

Country Boy 03-16-2010 06:06 PM

wish i could help you out , i never fished there but i did hear a man talking bout marsh island.

all star rod 03-16-2010 06:12 PM

Think you should be able to catch some REDS....
I do not think trout fishing will be good for a while...

bay_slayer 03-16-2010 06:12 PM

yeah, I always have pretty good luck fishing the marshes in Marsh Island, but I'd rather not go all the way to the Island if I can help it.

Yeah i'll be after the red's............the water is way too fresh this time of year for specs. I mainly just want to go wet a line with my little boy.

all star rod 03-16-2010 06:18 PM

I think by the time the river goes down and the freshwater leaves.......it will be time to head for the rigs....

longsidelandry 03-16-2010 06:20 PM

Hit up trash pile, I know a few people that have had some luck there. I'm hoping to try and make a trip over the weekend if the wind isn't too bad.

10-4, I'll keep an eye out if I can get out there. I'll probably go for a little while Saturday morning. I'm leaving at noon to go to the LSU baseball game so it'll be a short morning.

Montauk17 03-16-2010 07:57 PM

Never leave home without them!!!! :D Especially in V Bay, at least you can load up on some croaker if nothing else is biting.

oops.......I have no idea why it posted twice like that

jpeff31787 03-17-2010 09:54 AM

talked to someone a couple weeks ago when we had some south winds and he said he limited out on specs two days in a row. Was back for 10:00. He fished out the pass around Tee Butte. Check your satellite pictures. If pretty water moves in, I hear you can catch them.

rondog 03-17-2010 10:14 AM

talked to a buddy this morning. he fished the bay sunday. No good water any where. Best bet would be to fish the island. I heard a couple reports the last couple on days!

Tannerman 03-17-2010 04:29 PM

Where would I go to check out satellite pics for Tee Butte or any other areas. Thanks...

The water out of the pass looks decent....the bay was a mess when we went sunday, but the reds are still biting if you have shrimp.

Montauk17 03-17-2010 09:23 PM

http://www.esl.lsu.edu/imagery/modis...ll&sattype=all here is the one I was looking for, shows the whole gulf coast.

Tannerman 03-18-2010 04:18 PM

Thanks Montauk....pretty cool......

Montauk17 03-18-2010 05:02 PM

No problem...looks like the water is clearing up around the pass. Too bad the river is about to rise again.

speck-chaser 03-18-2010 09:30 PM

looks like that greenish water almost made it to cove today.

Montauk17 03-18-2010 11:01 PM

Think I might make a run saturday I will let yall know whats going on out there.

Dink 03-18-2010 11:17 PM

I've always heard if you go far enough in the gulf you can catch trout year round in the Eugene isle blocks......any truth to that???

Yep....the river can still make that area fresh. It won't be long untill the rigs start turning on untill the river goes up soon. I have only fished out there a few times as I dont have a boat big enough. With the river at 11 foot there should be some trout around tee butte and diamond.

speck-chaser 03-19-2010 08:44 AM

man, montauk, you transformed overnight.lol. I might go run my boat this afternoon. Prolly bring some fishing poles too.:D Ill try and post up when I get back.

If you know where the old sunken shrimp boat is at marsh island east of bayou michael....thats where we caught most of the reds last weekend. There is a good shell bottom in that area. Let me know whats up out there,Im planing on going tomorrow.

looks cool the chlorophyll chart should help for vbay

anyone know of any free ones like this?

RaginCagin 03-19-2010 09:19 AM

I have caught my biggest trout at Tee Butte in late may. Best to go during the week if you dont want to fight the idiots anchoring 10 feet from you. I had a guy 2 years ago pass over my anchor rope and cut it with his prop. Karma came only a few seconds later when the idiot smoked the reef with his prop and knocked his entire motor out of the water. My best trip here produced 2 six pounders and 3 five pounders but trips like that are few and far between.

which reef do you like best the first or the second?

Montauk17 03-19-2010 09:55 AM

Last few summers I went out there we always did better on the second reef. Almost all the way to the bank on the tail end of a incoming tide.

The second usually does not have nearly as many people on it but all I have ever really caught there were reds and a few smaller trout. I have dont alot better about 50 yards off the south end of the 1st reef. The second reef is where I watched the guy smoke his motor on the reef on the high tide. You can see the reef start on the bank and come out, freakin idiot:work:.

I always wanted to try Diamond reef to the east of the pass but never went that way. Any of you ever fish it?

Montauk17 03-19-2010 10:14 AM

Diamond reef is just as good as tee butte or better. Fish that area on a incoming tide with a southwest or south wind.

speck-chaser 03-19-2010 10:42 AM

yeah, diamond is huge, found a little reef ditch that produces most of the time there when the water is right.

Dink 03-19-2010 10:46 AM

Take it wide out of the pass........its shallow over there

bay_slayer 03-19-2010 04:09 PM

water is nasty and the wind is kickin right now. the marsh in shark island is clean but cant even find a hard head.
