Now you know "CNN" and "Truth" do not belong in the same sentence.

Hahaha

DannyI 08-28-2017 03:50 PM

Dat true but did see a link with interview that shots were fired as they floated off because they couldn't put anymore in boat. Also people trying to take boats from them.

tigerhead 08-28-2017 04:21 PM

Can you post the link. Haven't seen anything like that on the local news.

Louisiana Cajun Navy
53 mins ?

Clyde and the other team members and teams are all safe. Looters decided to pose as people needing rescue and they attempted to overtake the boats and there were shots fired at the boats. I repeat they are all safe. Looters must have not wanted our boats in the water for rescues. Please feel free to share this post. We are currently on stand down pending a new strategic plan.

A son of a good friend of mine in Rayne went to Texas this morning and by 3:30 had brought about 50 people to safety. He also said it is crazy out there and online pics are just a glimpse of how bad it really is.

cajun bill 08-29-2017 08:55 AM

Does anyone know how to get in touch with the leader of the group? I saw an article online about him and I wanted to see if the effort is organized enough to know if they need more boats or not? Hate to make the trip and not be able to help, which is exactly what happened when we tried to mobilize for Katrina..........LE turned us around.

Okay, thx, but which Cajun Navy is this? I saw in a news article that there are two with very similar names. And which one is most likely to be the most organized and reputable?

jchief 08-29-2017 12:23 PM

I think both are okay.

Yes rescue boats were shot at in Houston. We were told to pack heavy and shoot back if fired upon. Actually quit sending boats to a certain neighborhood in Houston. My overall experience rescuing from my 1542 aluminum bateau with 40hp Yamaha Monday and Tuesday in Houston and yesterday in Port Arthur was extremely positive. Residents and local LE were appreciative that we were there. In all cases we were more informed than local LE about rescue needs and areas. Nothing but respect for everyone I met. Amazing response from civilians and pros alike. Louisiana was very well represented in the rescue effort. I guess I overdid it because now I'm laid up sick....

Way to go Gunner. I'm betting you didn't use the Triton for this foray.

biggun 09-02-2017 11:22 AM

Mr. Bill .... No.. But I did Use my 18' Custom Alum hull with my 90 HP.. Last Sat. and Sunday in ****erson.

Sun nite and All day Monday in Humble.. Tuesday until last night Vidor.. Can't Seem to wrap my head around the SHEER scope of this Disaster.

Cajun Navy made a HUGE Difference... I know I easily have over $600-750 out of pocket in 6 days. Replace cell phone that got wet $800. Lost all info on it... Gas, oil, clothes, food, water, external battery packs for iPhone, Spot lights, rain gear..... U get the picture... Sleeping in my truck. U get the picture..

People were very appreciative of our efforts. Etc.

It will be 15 yrs before Houston and area is back.. Did have a few pep's in Humble buy us some food once or twice.

Hell feel like setting up a "go fund me" acct... LOL

PS..

But If anyone as info on good rain gear suits, at really GOOD PRICES.. I feel we are going to NEED them some more before this Hurricane Season is over.

neverenuf 09-03-2017 07:38 AM

No better rain gear than breathable chest waders and a good jacket.

Guyss...

If you are so inclined... U Can Donate to the CAjun Navy thru Paypal.. They 're looking into seeing if they can reimburse some expenses ... My boat and motor took a BEATING....

Anyone know where U can get rearming co2 cartridges of inflatable life vests locally?? Not Academy, west marine... Etc... They don't carry the 33 gram cartridges.

As anyone gotten a water proof iphone case other than Lifeproof. I'm thinking about trying A pelican Marine Case for my replacement Iphone 7...

ANYONE got a 12 gal plastic tank they don't use?? Someone I rescues stepped on mine. It's leaking.. It will need replacing...

Lifeproof sucks. So do iPhones. I switched to Samsung S6 active and solved 2 problems. Phone don't suck, don't need a case. Completely waterproof.

A friend of mine and I were goi g to go to Beaumont this weekend with my boat. His son had been in Houston since Monday or so. Kept seeing conflicting reports on social media. We need more boats then we're turning boats around. Social media can be so good at times if people would stop posting fake crap. Especially during a time like that. You don't know what to believe. I wanted to go help but didn't want to waste time or money. We just got what we could for the people in the shelter hear in Alexandria. It breaks my heart. If any of y'all know a family in that shelter let me know and they can stay with us. Family pets are welcome too. John. 318 308 6709. It ain't the Marriot but it may feel a little more like home.

Dude.... quit begging. Seriously. U did a good deed. U knew ur **** was likely to get fugged up during the process. Ive helped a buddy that flooed, but any expense on my part i sucked it up. It almost sounds like u did this for a handout. U dont go rescuing ppl expecting reimbersments. Suck it up.

neverenuf 09-04-2017 08:56 PM

Go with the water proof phones. Crazy not to. I roll with the Samsung s7. Multiple swimming trips and no ill effects.

Top Dawg 09-04-2017 09:07 PM

Samsung here too. Best switch i ever made.

Thanks for all that helped in any way they could. How's the water levels in La?

My boat was in the shop so I went to Rockport where Harvey hit, spent a week there cutting downed trees and gutting sheetrock and insulation.

WAY to go Trout. I just got back from Rockport helping out for a week with Samaritan's Purse (what a great group!) Rockport and parts of Aransas Pass including Port Aransas are a mess. It'll be a couple of years before they recover. Wish I could figure out how to post a pic, but there was one mobile home we worked on that was totally destroyed IMO, but FEMA told the owner that she needs to repair it. What a load of crap! Half the roof was torn off and the whole trailer was shifted sideways. I'm not saying that the owner doesn't owe some responsibility, but to say that her trailer could be repaired was ridiculous. It was trashed. All we could save was some of her inside contents (and very few of those), but her attitude was "oh well, guess I'll have to live with it."

Very sad for all, we are so fortunate.

People need to take anything FEMA says with a BIG grain of salt.
We applied for fema help after the flood for the possessions we lost . they cut us a check for about half. (That's cool as i didn't have to come out of pocket for that half.) then they advised us to get an SBA loan to help repair our house. Did that also. Now with the Restore La. program we have to come out of pocket for any of that money we have spent on replacing or rebuilding to qualify for the restore program. I can understand that any money we got to rebuild (SBA Loan) would be a duplication of benefits. But we got 10k from fema to replace 18k of contents lost. Restore says we have to put that 10 k up also . But the restore program doesn't replace furniture or clothes or tools, Only appliances.
Don't get me wrong ,i am grateful for the restore program. We will have a brand new home (at least the interior ) when they are finished. But they need to realize that FEMA money is not a duplication of benefits.
Also If you apply for an SBA loan and you qualify for 75k. Let's say you have enough in the bank to where you can get by with 30k of that loan . So you take 30 k of the 75k. when restore kicks in they use the 75 k figure for duplication of benefits. not what money you got but what you qualified for. This program does not repair mobile homes .They just pay a flat fee for them . 45k for a single wide and 65k for a double wide. whether its 1 year old or 15 years old.
