Prop for new tohatsu
3 Attachment(s)
Well fellas i had enough and sold my 40 omc, and am upgrading to a brand new 40 tohatsu 4 stroke. Talked to a few dealers and they want $300+ for a powertech stainless prop, im thinking i can get one either locally or online for cheaper, i just dont know what type, size, and pitch to get. My old motor was flush mounted and plan to do the same on the new motor, but if its advantageous i have a cmc power plate i can put on, so id need to get the appropriate prop.
Boat is a 16x48 1994 alweld semi v, the semi v continues all the way to the transom. Got 20" sides and transom, boat has bench in back and a fishing deck in the front the rest is open. I have two batteries and a 12 gal gas tank all in the back behind the bench. Im getting a brand new tiller tohatsu 40 four stroke long shaft with electric start and power trim. Any insight would be appreciated https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...29080a2a01.jpg Attachment 117144Attachment 117145Attachment 117146 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm running a 16 pitch black stainless on a 1650 Xpress. Run 35-37 mph 6000 rpm

Also forgot to mention i plan to take the restrictor plate out to make it close to a 50

My restricter is out as well. I also have 2 batteries, 63# each and 24v TM.

Are you running a jackplate? Would a jackplate do me any good since im not a flat bottom?

Yes sir. I run a 6" jackplate. It will allow you to run the Motorola shallower. Without a jackplate I would probably have to run a 15 pitch to get my rpms up.

From what the internets say the scb3 is a knock off of the yamaha black, but with thicker blades and runs 1-2mph slower. If thats the only difference ill settle for a mile an hr or two for $200. Maybe somebody else has other insight on the differences.

Whats the part/model number on that yama black

Do i even want to run the scb3/yama black? Pt also has the reb and the srd that look like it might work.

Everything i read talks about flat boats, i know the v isnt much in them alwelds but will the semi v affect prop choice? And is it worth jacking up?

My express is built very similar to the alweld. In my personal opinion, it's almost always worth jacking up. That does change with prop selection. With the SCB or the Yamaha prop, you can run your cavitation plate 1-1.5" above the bottom of boat. Less motor in the water, less drag, better performance.

Did a lot of calling around today and looks like ima order me a 15p scb prop

Not a prop question, but does anyone know how to take the restrictor plate out? Blacks doesnt do it, he said he doesnt mind if i do it but he as the dealer wont. I know lam does it but im not driving over two hrs for that. Google only has info on the tldi not the four stroke. Anybody ever done it themselves? Might have to just wait till i actual have the motor to fool around with it.

Alright guys, i took delivery of the motor yesterday and went on a break in ride. Accidentally got drunk doing it so hard to say how it ran. Very hung over this morning i took the restrictor plate out of the air box and put on my pt prop and went run it again. The motor and prop work great on the set up i have, i was able to get 37mph. The only thing i need to do is raise the motor up a notch or two its way to low, cavitation plate is under the boat and it sprays water everywhere when im running.

Sounds like you've got it going! Did you go 15p or 16p?

Good deal

So you just take the air filter box off and there is the restrictor plate? I bought a new 40 tohatsu last week and had no idea about the restrictor

Yeah two bolts and your good to go

You may hit 40mph, go 2 notches higher and I bet that prop still grips. They run well 2-3" above transom and the torque steer significantly decreases.

Yea I did, I haven't hit full throttle yet haven't got it past 2 hours but the thing rips on my 15x48 at half throttle I'm hitting mid 20's

You should get 40 out of it at least. Since I've gotten mine broke in and set, I run a solid 39 and if I get a tail wind I can hit 42 lol.
