I'll tell you what..........it's amazing how compassionate people can be toward someone that they've never met. This is a great group of guys here. I asked my wife if she wanted to read the comments. She did and said, "God bless SaltyCajun." Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. We'll be ok on the trip. My concern is not the cold or snow....but, the "Black Ice". Southern151, having grown up in Oklahoma, can tell you all about it. Maybe we'll get lucky. Again, thanks.

I was heading west on I-40 just east of OKC in '07 when, all of a sudden, I hit a patch of "Black Ice". I spun 4 complete revolutions on the interstate before my truck came to a stop. Luckily, there were no other vehicles close by. You just don't know it's there until you hit it and the hills are the scariest.

Prayers sent for your wifes family and your safe travel.

southern151 12-29-2009 08:23 AM

Yeah, the black ice is a real issue up there and it sneaks up on you so fast. That is my real concern with your travels. Be safe and take your time. God bless you and your wife.

Take some gear with ya! The sac-a-lait should be ROLLIN' up there right now!!!!! BTW, we call em crappie up there for those of you who didn't know.

BananaTom 12-29-2009 11:06 AM

You may want to pack a survival kit with you. I always took extra water and duct tape for blown hoses, a source of heat like even a colman lantern or stove with fuel. Extra blankets and some food. So if you find yourself onside of the road for awhile, you can make it. Nasty time of year to travel.

I have many stories of winter time travel, and I would not want to re-live any of them.

LaAngler 12-29-2009 11:22 AM

Sorry Salty
