With I-10 closing at the Texas border

Will 27 to 82 along the coast then up through Winnie be open? I would think it would. Trying to get one of my baseball players home from Florida to play Friday night.

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 08:25 AM

Yes Casey, you'll be good that way but the traffic will be horrible.

The other option appears to be 49 to 20 seems like that would cost them three to four hours?

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 08:34 AM

Correct, that's the only 2 crossings that I'm aware of. It's 3.5 hours from my house to I-20 so I think it will cost them more then 3 hours for sure. They might want to head up to I-20 on I-55 in Hammond. I'm sure I-49 will be backed up due to everyone detouring north on it.

What would you do? Stay on I-10 get off exit 20 in sulphur and head south to go the back way through Winnie? Or I-20?

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 08:40 AM

Coming from Florida I think I would go 20. I would just head up to 20 before I got to 49.

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 08:41 AM

They can take 55 from Hammond and it will take them about 2.5 hours.

BassYakR 03-15-2016 08:44 AM

When are they coming back? I dont see I10 being closed friday...

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 08:50 AM

The river is supposed to crest Wednesday night Thursday morning in Orange.

latravcha 03-15-2016 08:54 AM

Going to Houston on Friday. Any idea when I 10 will open again?

As long as it's in the purple I-10 should be closed. That's what it looks like to me anyway. It is just now getting into the purple and they are just now closing I-10.

ckinchen 03-15-2016 09:25 AM

They will be coming back near the border sometime after lunch on Thursday.

cumgetusum 03-15-2016 10:54 AM

You are still able to cross Toledo bend at the dam, then could work southward.

noodle creek 03-15-2016 01:32 PM

I 10 is still open at sabine river.

papap 03-15-2016 01:42 PM

Also highway 6 across Toledo bend is open.

wetaline 03-15-2016 02:42 PM

I-10 west just shut down 4 miles before the Louisiana line. I-10 east still open.

PaulMyers 03-15-2016 03:08 PM

Just heard La 190 west just opened.

X2 put that kid on a bird and fly him over, put him on a Private Jet if he's a ringer and you have a scary bookie.

you could go North on 171 at Lake Charles to Longville; west on 110 to Longville, then Singer, then Merryville and hit 190. Crossing the Sabine River at Bon Wier. You may want to stay on 190 until Livingston Tx if you are going to be on the North side of Houston. If you take 96 South from Jasper to Beaumont you may encounter a lot of traffic but it is a four lane road. the speed limit on 110 in Louisiana is 55 and is enforced.

I just got back from Clear Creek WMA and drove US 190 west of Deridder and Hwy 171.

While traffic was more than normal..... it was not "heavy" and no delays anywhere. Taking this route as a Detour.....will add about 1:30 to 1:45 minutes due to I-10 closure.

I saw a few 18 wheelers going East and wonder if I-10 east bound was closed.

Anacoco creek, at the bridge on Hwy 111 has dropped about 2 feet in the last 2 days.

PaulMyers 03-16-2016 03:32 PM

Thanks for the info Gerald

papap 03-16-2016 03:40 PM

Had someone try to come down 190 from Texas and he says cops made him go back. Wonder why?

Baychamp1 03-16-2016 04:51 PM

Just came up Hwy. 171 thru DeRidder, traffic is light, there's an electronic sign just before the 190 split directing the detouring traffic to Texas.

Baychamp1 03-16-2016 09:40 PM

Should have read Hwy. 190/111 split, I prefer going up Hwy.171 vs. Hwy. 27, 4 lanes vs 2

I saw several electronic sign along the route.

At the Ragley overpass the sign said: "Keep going north".

In Deridder just before Hwy 171 turns north headed toward Leesville the sign says: "go straight to Texas"

Yep, and traffic was no more than normal

Lake Chuck Duck 03-17-2016 09:25 AM

I have to cross tomorrow morning. Sounds like going through Deridder is the way to go? Ive been hearing sketchy reports of Johnson Bayou route. Anyone have an update on Johnson bayou?

tojoe 03-17-2016 09:44 AM

If your are referring to Hwy 82 over the Causeway bridge, it took a buddy of mine 45 minutes to get from one end of the bridge to the other yesterday afternoon around 5:30 PM. Just a FYI

Pull n Pray 03-17-2016 09:54 AM

I'm hearing it depends on the time of day. I'm sure around 5:30 it will be bad with everyone getting off work.

papap 03-17-2016 10:11 AM

I decided to just fly from Houston to Lake Charles. Did not feel like fighting traffic.

Red Tuna 03-17-2016 05:09 PM

Thanks for all the info.

I am in Destin with the kids and we are driving to Houston on Saturday. It sounds like going south through Port Arthur (via 27) is a bad idea, and the DOT suggested route through Shreveport adds 4 hours (and 13 hours is a bit too long with little kids!)

It sounds like the route through DeRidder is an option, but I'd appreciate any further ideas or updates.

Going Hwy 171 & US 190 IMO is probably the best option. You should be able to drive the speed limit without slowing down most of the way..... unless you get behind someone going slow on US 190, it is a 2 lane hwy.

Tonight's news report said the water on I-10 has started to drop. Hwy is still covered with a little water and Texas officials have said that the Hwy will need to be inspected before it is reopened.

wetaline 03-18-2016 06:33 PM

I-10 westbound at Tx/La line now open. Eastbound still closed.

homerun 03-18-2016 08:01 PM

kplc news says both ways open now.
