Debunking the Myth that Science Disproves the Bible

Science was born from man’s desire to acquire knowledge with greater certainty and objectivity than is available from “authoritative” sources and “expert” opinions. Since human opinion is fallible, a method was invented to provide greater objectivity through the testability of ideas ...

Ha! that was a good read, thanks MG. I will have to read it again to fully absorb it.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. You do realize there is a difference between the Bible and the Koran, right?

If you sum the written truths of science that have been disproved by new scientific discoveries you could fill the library of congress.

So how true is it really?

The article in the link proves the above pic false.

BassYakR 03-02-2016 11:43 AM

Ill stick with Science... Yall have fun!

You could say the same with all of the bibles and religious writing from all religions around the world. And they all believe theirs to be the truest.

So how is yours the truest?

wishin i was fishin 03-02-2016 01:24 PM

You say all bibles, I say all but the Holy Bible written by the one true God. God that all other gods are compared to.

Just because other religions may be wrong, doesnt mean they are all wrong.

BassYakR 03-02-2016 01:35 PM

They have all be rewritten to fit man for 100s of years!

Renegade 03-02-2016 03:22 PM

I'm amused by people who try to use science to disprove the Bible and those who try to use the Bible to disprove science. Both are ignorant as far as I'm concerned.

wishin i was fishin 03-02-2016 04:00 PM

I have been called worse.

no trying to disprove science, just that it is fallible.

capt coonassty 03-02-2016 05:49 PM

I really don't see science trying to disprove the bible either. I don't think many scientist have some secret vendetta against religion.

Scientists have creation @ 4.5 billion yrs. ago through the study of earth, moon, meteors, etc. Literal translation of the Bible has creation @ 6 to 10 thousand yrs. based on a 7 "day" creation. Just because man has to understand things in a time frame doesn't equate to God who is not of this temporal dimension, Another possibility is that things were sped up during creation, bottom line man cannot disprove the Bible, which is the point of MG's thesis, IMO

Smalls 03-02-2016 11:02 PM

The fact that you guys are arguing--on a fishing forum, mind you--about a subject that will never be settled is hillarious.

Why can't people just believe what they want to believe, and everyone else just mind their own Gosh Damn Freaking Business?!?!

Good point, more of a discussion than arguing. LOL

The sphere of science is the laws of nature (the natural world) as determined my repeatable experiment. When limited to its proper sphere and executed properly, it is very good at testing hypotheses and eliminating errors.

The sphere of the Bible is things of the spirit and how the supernatural interacts with the natural. This is a sphere about which science is incapable of speaking. People of faith who are knowledgeable about science usually only doubt science when it reaches beyond its sphere of the natural world and begins to make claims about things that belong to the sphere of the Bible.

The point of the linked article is to articulate more clearly how people are pushing science beyond its appropriate sphere when they claim that its conclusions somehow contradict the Bible.

As for the non believers - If their right it doesn't matter, but if we're right you might wanna think about hedgeing your bets, food for thought.

A man who believes, dies and is wrong has lost nothing..... A man who does not believe, dies and is wrong has lost everything for all eternity.

All I know is everyone has to believe in something, I believe that My God, The God spoken of in the Holy Bible, that sent his Son (he himself in human form) to die for us and wash away our sins in his own blood is the one and only. With that said another thing I believe is I'm going fishing tomorrow!!!

Agreed, but I only wish I could go fishing tomorrow.

That's the beauty of Science, as new information is discovered, often due to technological advances, a new understanding of nature is found that replaces what was previously thought to be true. Think of how the Germ Theory of Disease by Pasteur replaced what was thought to be true beforehand. Now that particular theory is now accepted as truth as it has been tested over and over again. But that theory could be changed if new information is gained.

evis102 03-05-2016 09:13 PM

Two great things about the United States.

1 You have the right to believe whatever you want.

2 We have laws to keep religion out of government.

Think about Pasteur's experiment that disproved the theory of spontaneous generation and showed that life does not come from non-life and how experimental proof would be required to refute his findings.

It's funny how when I was in school they taught us that heat rises. I debated my science teacher on that one asking him why ice floats if heat rises. He didn't answer me

It's all about density. Hot air is less dense than cold air, so hot air rises above cold air. Ice and water are not quite the same as hot and cold air, but it still relies on density.

Ice is colder than the water it is floating in, it shouldnt rise to the top - debunks that myth about heat rising

Also makes no sense that ice can float on water. They are the same thing

Separation of Church and state is no where in the constitution or the bill of rights. Its just a catch phrase the liberals grabbed out of some of Jefferson's memoirs.

John Adams said "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.

People are free to go to church or not go BUT everyone should realize that everything that is good about America is directly due to the Christian values, morals and beliefs that this nation was founded apoun.

As morality continues to slide into the gutter, we are seeing our freedoms erode as the state has to take more and more control in an effort to control an immoral people, just as Adams predicted.
