Ha.. had a group do that to me, every time I would pull one in theyd take over my spot so Id just move and catch more in a different spot.. repeat wash rinse. Think theyd blow a lid when they get too close and you set the hook in their gut?

AubreyLaHaye458 09-28-2015 12:17 PM

I had a guy pick up his power pole and troll full speed across a reef the other day just to cut me off, and did it more than once. I guess he thought he'd make me mad and I'd leave. I'd just troll the other direction and continue catching fish

every now and then I pack a few extra slices of bread with my sandwich

When you are about to leave a spot break up the bread and throw it in the water. The birds will be all over. Then sit back and watch them fools roll in from miles away. Keeps them busy for about 20min. Really great when you are only moving a couple hundred yards or so. Watch them scratch their heads for awhile.

a hand full of corn.....then watch and enjoy.....

Spring and summer are the worst. especially if there is some wind on a Saturday morning and these guys cant get to the outside of last island to drown minnows/shrimp on the bottom. They lose it and start running everywhere. If they wouldn't always run to the most obvious places when the weather is good and put in some time to find other areas they would know places to go in rougher weather or conditions. Most of these people have a boat because they saw a fishing show. Or went with a buddy one time.

"W" 09-28-2015 04:34 PM

I caught limits two days in a row in the middle of 7 boats !! It was awesome

fonikoddity 09-28-2015 06:28 PM

We had a "guide boat" basically run us off birds yesterday. My friend's FIL invited us on his boat, so I wasn't going to make a fuss about it, but man it pissed me off!

This bothers me too. I watched a guide with a boat full of women get into a screaming fight with a guy in another boat about sharing birds. I understand it's his job to put his people on fish, but if it's his job he shouldn't have to chase birds to catch fish.

Your not a guide (or a good one at that ) if you stop and fish birds with another boat on them
That's just ridiculous!
Only birds i will ever fish is a group that is not in site of boats.

something truly sad happened to me a few weeks ago.. I got the experience in freshwater, while fishing for bass. I've never seen that happen before while freshwater fishing. I always thought bass guys were a little more courteous than others. It was a tragic day. He did exactly that. Parked on the spot where the fish were holding.. I even asked him to back off then cast as he was sitting on top of the fish and all he did was curse me out

Crankbait36 09-29-2015 08:09 AM

Hell I had one come in on top of me in Toledo Bend while I was catching fish on every cast! When he was less than 5 yards from me I asked if he would like to fish out of my boat! After he left I got him back by going ride donuts around him and when he asked me what I was doing I told him you don't own the lake just like he had told me!

That is sad indeed. It's not like bass are only going to be in that one spot. And like you mentioned bass fisherman are known for not fishing on top of one another..

bobo23 09-29-2015 09:00 AM

It's a sad state of affairs out there on Big Lake. Like most of you, I've experienced it too. You have to make a conscious decision not to be a potlicker. It's easy to do when you're on fish. It's a little more difficult when someone is spanking them, right in front of you. That's when a man is really tested. Some guys just can't put common courtesy ahead of a speckled trout.

Myself personally, I just potlick the black Haynie, Pwahahahaha. :rotfl:

ahlangle 09-29-2015 09:21 AM

I usually just roll on up to the spot with a boat full of ladiez bumpin some Toby Keith, catch all their limits, then boats start blowin up my spot and they're like "hey man what're they bitin on, what kinda cologne is that, what kinda underwear are you wearin?" And I'm just like "don't look me in the eye boy" then I just crank er up and head to the sizzler

Some people genuinely don't know any better I think. I've been with other people before that the whole time I'm having to bite my toungue bc they simply dgaf, or are too stupid to realize they are messing others fishing up. Even when Toledo gets super crowded it rarely happens to me. My mind was completely blown my first few trips to BL on how rude and d**khead-ish people could be down there. I remember literally unhooking a guys jig head that was hung in OUR boat and putting a redfish on it for him to reel in (we already had our reds, and it was at the wiers, duh lol)

had a guy do this to me in henderson. was tearing up the sac a lait on this one tree and he motors over full speed, bee lining to me. swamped my boat and tied up to the same tree. Had a kid with him at that. What are you teaching the future generations its ok to do? I told him it didnt bother me but it should bother him that he is teaching his kid to be discourteous.

I know one thing ... My people wanted live shrimp last week and that was the easiest fishing ever .. Wonder why so many guides can't catch fish on plastic lol

That is the easiest fishing ever , had limits by 9am 3 days in a row and I use artificial and only caught like 13 best day out of 3

If you can't catch on Live shrimp you better stop trying to be a guide

Sounds like the points in Henderson. I refuse to fish the community spots and can catch my share avoiding the crowds.

when this happens I just pull up a few feet from the boat so all on the boat can hear and I loudly tell everyone on that boat to remember to tell everyone they know how their charter capt is so dumb he cant find any fish on his own so he has come and steal fishing spots from other people rather then share the area and they should find someone else for their next trip.

I love watching them pot licker wanna be captains turn purple when I do that

there is a big difference in fishing crowded areas with lots of boats and someone crossing right over where you are fishing so you cant even cast your line. the former is a frustrating PITA but the later is just uncalled for.

rustyb 09-29-2015 05:44 PM

Cant leave a purple captain w/o plowing right thru the fishing area he tried to force you off of.

Speck-killer 09-30-2015 07:07 AM

You guys at BL think you have it bad, just come over to Cypremort Point and try to fish when they're biting. Those a holes will almost throw an anchor in your boat to get next to you if you're on fish. Fish birds? Don't ever try at VB. It used to be the idiots only came out on weekends, but now its all week long.

rardoin 09-30-2015 08:42 AM

Birds??.....

Did someone say birds!!????...Where? Where?

Damn it, I dropped my binoculars pulling up my trolling motor:(.

Marque 09-30-2015 09:11 AM

This is a problem I have seen get progressively worse for me over the years and I recently discovered a solution that works quite well. The only problem is I really only feel comfortable doing it when I am fishing alone in an isolated spot and someone rolls up on me. What I do is take off all of my clothes and just continue fishing like they aren't there. They usually don't stay to long. Yelling and causing a scene usually only makes the offending potlicker more determined to mess up your day but when they roll up on a guy fishing naked they know they are not dealing with a stable individual.

I am afraid that is the only way I have discovered to deal with them. I would like to think that most serious fisherman respect each others space, but potlickers aren't fisherman. They bought a boat and can't really figure out how to put fish in it. They want something to show for all the money they spent and they are going to get their pound of flesh. They don't see anything wrong with what they are doing and its very hard to convince the otherwise unless it happens to them a few times. They will end up growing out of it or selling their boat. Guides who do it probably won't last too long and eventually go back to bartending or land a job selling pharmaceuticals.

Every time it happens to me I fantasize about trolling over and beating the guy unconscious. When I am done pounding his head into his console I take the keys off his boat and throw them into the water. Then I turn back and wink at his girl friend and without a word being said she jumps in my boat with me and I catch her limit too. When I return to reality I usually just pick up the trolling motor, give him a dirty look and leave.

until you can just shoot them and sell their stuff on e-bay, it will just get worse.

here lately the trend in the basin is now to drive by you wide open, only to shut down and start fishing 50 ards ahead of you in a 45' wide canal.

it's amazing how much mud i can stir up as i drive a circle or two around these people then leave and pass 5' off the bank the whole way home and piss everybody off with my mudmotor.

i honestly think these people are so stupid that they would watch you pull out the ar, rack one in the chamber, watch you tap the forward assist, achive a good sight picture on them, and then shoot half the people in the boat before they could fathom the fact that they are getting taken care of.

i just hope when i go poastal the guy has apower pole on his boat. i always wanted one. lol
maybe a depth finder or a fishfinder too.

if you head shoot them you might be able to sell some of their clothes as well. a dollar's a dollar.

all this is nice to think about, but potlicking is just a problem we will have to put up with.

I could never go there but I have dreamed of putting about a dozen bullet holes through their hulls and motor so they are regulated back to bank fishing since they clearly cannot respect the rights of others when boating.

problem is, if you pop off a few "warning shots" in a safe manner straight into the water to "send a message" loud and clear, they end up having you arrested as a "maniac" who started shooting at them for no reason at all

if I could ever be certain which truck and trailer belonged to them, I would let the air out of both trailer tires and spare and leave a note on the windshield saying next time it will be the truck tires too if they cant respect others on the water.

I am getting better I really am, but sometimes the violation is too egregious for me to maintain bearing. Bad drivers and potlickers are the two thing I can't abide. I have an irrational hatred for them. I would more than likely not render assistance to someone who has pot licked me unless there was children aboard. I don't think I could kill them but I could certainly let them die. A couple of years ago I could have killed them, I think thats the definition of progress.

Absolutely! From wanting to kill pot-lickers to doing a strip-tease to attract women on his boat is definitely progress in the right direction. Better to make love than war. The question is does the strip tease actually work or is it more of a repulsive reaction on the part of the female/male(gotta be careful now a days!) fisherperson on the pot-lickin' boat?:D

BTW, would like to fish w/ you in the bay one day!

It depends on who you ask. I am serious about fishing and my responsibility for the souls aboard. Thats about it. I work really hard at catching fish and talking $hit. If I ever become as good at fishing as I am at busting balls the CCA is gonna kill me like the mob killed Kennedy.

I have never had a problem repelling females, all of them think its too big. The burlesque is for the insecure doucher in the Yellowfin that is compensating. I wouldn't describe their expression as repulsed, more one of disbelief. My guess is they probably assumed I was some sort of Greek god who came up for a look.

You got about two more weeks before its going to cost you, just about finished the online SixPac course. I am gonna see I can scrape by until they need some more oil. I always wanted to do it and I had the time. Why not. Might become one of pioneers gaff top/hard head sport fishing.

I don't know what your talking about. You looked like a kid who just found his first boner on the front of my boat. Crankin on them little catfish like you were hooked into a tarpon. A few of them came easier than y'all thought and come flying at my head like teal. The good trout trips eventually fade into one another but you well never forget slamming the tops. Doesn't seem like you or Dubois are gonna let me forget it either.
