Big Lake 12/19/2009

5 Attachment(s)
Me and my brother in law hit Big Lake at sun rise. We knew it was too fresh
and too muddy for Trout, so we potlicked Adamsfence's hole again.
Got 10 nice Reds in about an hour. Biggest one hit on the first cast.
The rest were hitting but not as fast as yesterday. The last 3 hit back to
back. The bite was just starting as we were finishing up our limit.

I bought my brother in law a new Stix rod with a new Shimano reel on it for
Christmas. He out did me, he got me a 48 qt. Yeti cooler.

Water temps were 48 to 49 on the edges of the lake and 51 in the middle.
Water was a couple ft. lower than yesterday, hopefully this will get some
salt water back in to Big Lake. Winds were around 10 to 15 and air temps
were 46 when we launched.
We found a few PVC pipe tips barely sticking out of the water. We dragged
a rod across the area around them and found some reefs I didn't know
about. I also found a big limestone hump sticking out the water.

My brother in law and his family were at the Pete's party last month also.

We ran into Longcast and Gottago from Salty Cajun. Nice to meet up with
you guys at the launch.

Oh, my brother in law got a bum knee and I gotta bad back. This was the
best we could do to imitate the "Salty Cajun Squat".

Montauk17 12-19-2009 06:22 PM

Nice catch guys,it was a nice day to be on the water.

Ray 12-19-2009 06:24 PM

It was a cold and could of been nicer, but today was the only day he could get off work.

Montauk17 12-19-2009 06:27 PM

Better than staying home and doing yard work like I did. :D

Ray 12-19-2009 06:30 PM

Don't remind me about yard work. I decided to park the boat in the back yard cause
of all the people coming over for lunch today. Big mistake. I put ruts all over the place.

I will be in the dog house till 2012 for that.

mikedatiger 12-19-2009 06:33 PM

It shows the water temps on the bottom left. The blue dot is a top secret
set of weirs.

We did try to catch some trout after the reds, but the lake is still screwed up
pretty bad.

shellman 12-19-2009 06:51 PM

Nice catch Ray , now go watch saints game..........

Slidellkid 12-19-2009 06:56 PM

Nice mess of reds

Ray 12-19-2009 07:02 PM

We fished with shrimp on lead heads, sitting on the bottom.
The water is so fresh, we caught ZERO hardheads and ZERO Gafftop.
Just sitting the bait on bottom and wait for the Reds to smell it and
pick it up.
The birds are hitting the shrimp, but they are not big.

bohunterbiff 12-19-2009 07:13 PM

Tried to get there today - lock pin in the trailer hub broke and caused the bearings to go out - almost lost a tire. Now I can not find the bearings or seals. So I will stay here and read how you all did!!!!!!!!!!!

Ray 12-19-2009 07:23 PM

Nice, detailed report, Ray. For a sec, I thought you had W's map on your gps.

catch.and.fillet 12-19-2009 09:53 PM

Great Job Ray and nice report. Yea, water was lowww and lower this afternoon.

How accurate is the tide forecast for calcasieu light house? It was supposed to be low tide at 11 but it was still falling near Turner's at 2:00.

"H" 12-19-2009 10:06 PM

Nice catch Ray!
were the boats stacked up at the weirs or is the cold weather keeping them away?
thinking about making a trip over maybe Tuesday.

Nasty 12-19-2009 11:12 PM

Ray

Connine Bois?

Ray 12-20-2009 03:58 PM

H, not any boats out that day.

Big Nasty, yep.

Salty, I have all of W's spots in an email from Fool. I ain't put them in the GPS yet.

Catch and Fillet, the tides are a little different that far up. It will fall faster South.

It's still gonna be a while longer. She wants to redo the wash room and make
the dining room a big pantry and make the den a dining room and redo my
bathroom. Plus she wants to replace all the windows with insulated windows
and change out 3 outside doors.

You ever thought about building a new home.....:D

Ray 12-20-2009 04:16 PM

She said this was the perfect house when we bought it.
1 year later, she was changing floors and painting all the
walls, remodeled her bathroom, new appliances in the
kitchen, vinyl siding and new french doors.

So much for perfect.

Now she is upgrading to extra perfect.
