I do believe that in 20yrs of working on vehicles this is the highest mileage I have seen. 424,910. A little Toyota pickup

marshrunner757 06-30-2015 01:55 PM

Holly crap!

jpd0144 06-30-2015 02:08 PM

That's up there !

Back in the 90's I had got rid of a Yota 4x4 that was well kept but because it had 188,000 I figured it had done its time ... what was I thinking ? lol

AC issue. Solid little truck other than that.

marshrunner757 06-30-2015 02:32 PM

Nice. The most I ever got out of a vehicle was 244,000. That was a 98 Silverado. But did have transmission rebuilt at 125000. Motor still was quiet as a mouse and didn't leak or burn oil.

keakar 06-30-2015 03:06 PM

not bad at all, and pretty typical of Toyotas, the are the energizer bunny of trucks.

they are just getting broken in at 100k miles

simplepeddler 06-30-2015 03:27 PM

dad had a 454 chevy tow truck that got 677K miles...........had a two quart royal purple set up on it.

It was featured in the "Like a rock" commercials chevy used to have...........

Dad was on camera saying "it always gave me my dollar when I needed my dollar".........was a great commercial and showed my dad at his proudest.

If only I could have been a truck back then..........LOL

Man that is awesome. Do you know if that commercial is anywhere on the internet? I would like to see that. Nothing better than hard working folks getting it done. Props to your dad.

500k mlies and the guy is still the original owner since 1998

Matt G 06-30-2015 05:30 PM

That's aweome. Sad when we buy a $40k vehicle now and pray it can make it to 100k miles.

fishizzle 06-30-2015 05:34 PM

I worked at an oil change place years back. Had an old guy that did hot shot work with his Toyota t100, guy had over a million miles on it. He told us Toyota gave him a watch when the truck hit 1,000,000

Damn that's cool. Hope it was a good watch. That's doing some rolling.

If it's good it's good. I'm 39 and on my 3rd truck. I hate working on my own stuff but I'll keep it intil it needs to be replaced. Bought my 07 gmc because the kids out grew the 89 yota xcab. Still wish I wouldn't have sold that truck though.

Ed32 06-30-2015 11:13 PM

I was thinking of getting rid of my tundra with 255k miles. I guess I'll keep it for a couple of more years after seeing these posts about the new trucks not lasting

clay67 07-01-2015 02:32 AM

I just sold a 1992 toyota 4x4 to a friend that had 306k and it used no oil. And it was used as a side by side the last couple years. I have no doubt that it will make 400k if they keep it serviced. I have seen several diesel pickups with over 500k. Some of them were really abused as and still lasted.

If it's still a good ride I would keep it. Paying for general service and repairs is cheaper than having a truck note.
We have some customers with some older vehicles that we maintain. If it's still a good vehicle we advise them to continue driving it and maintaining it. Sometimes though the best advice you can give them is to consider investing in a new vehicle. Yeah I won't be making as much $ from them but we are honest about what is best for them and that makes loyal customers. Repeat business keeps the doors open.

That's awesome man. You just can't beat it when you have ole reliable.

mcjaredsandwich 07-01-2015 12:08 PM

Just got an '04 Tahoe with 68k on it. I'm sure it'll last a good while. Gonna change out the transmission fluid next week. Had to change the water pump gaskets and just put on a new water pump to be done with it since I already had it off. Other than that, I've put about 5k on it already and no problems. I know I'll end up changing out the fuel pump around 100k. Couldn't pass on the mileage plus having room for the family I know will be coming in another year or so.

That's a solid ride man. That 5.3 liter is a great engine. You are right about the fuel pump though. Keep it above 1/4 tank all the time. People kill their fuel pumps by running on a low tank. The fuel helps keep the pump cool. It can't stay cool when running on an 1/8 tank. The other issue we see a lot with them is that dam intermiddiate steering shaft clunking when you turn the steering wheel. Not something that is a safet concern just annoying to some. Not too bad to change either man.

saute86 07-01-2015 11:55 PM

My cousin traded his 04 tacoma with 380,000 miles on it and got $7,000 for it. All he did was change oil, brakes, and timing belt every 100,000 miles. It didn't burn any oil. I have a 2010 tacoma and i will never sell it. The gas mileage isn't the best but its paid for. I have owned every make of truck and Toyota is hands down a quality vehicle.

I have an 03 Tahoe with 206K on it running like a champ!! I was rearended in it last year so it has cosmetic damage, but 23 miles to the gallon is great on that 5.3ltr and it is like a Caddy compared to my 08 F250 with 260K on it. Everything still works like new...in fact just gave my stepson the old Subaru and gave the fiance the Tahoe...she loves it!!

Had an 86 Toyota 4x4 with that 22RE engine...had 335K on it when I let it go in 2001...never did anything but change the tires and brake pads...great trucks!!

BessFishHound 07-02-2015 03:42 PM

I have a 07 Chevy Avalanche with 225k. I hope son keeps it running a few more years. He got it when it had 125k. One transmission change when it was under warranty. I'm keepingmy fingers crossed.

I sold my 2000 7.3 2 years ago with 220,000. Only thing ever changed was the in-tank fuel pump, water pump, and alternator....oh, and tie-rods. I bought a 2013 F350 6.7. Got 55,000 on it. I like the 2013, but don't like the payment. Kinda wish I would have kept my 7.3 after hearing all the high mileage claims. Especially since I changed oil every 3-5k and serviced tranny every 25k. Man, I gave that baby away too... :(
