I have 1. Meanest dog I ever had. She is a b I t c h.

cajunduck man 05-11-2015 06:15 PM

I am on my third one, this one is a female. My second one was nick-named "fang", but he was a retrieving machine...hunted until he was 13 years old, died last May at 14. My current Chessie is the best natured dog I have ever owned. She doesn't like other dogs but loves people. I picked her up in Tenn. She has been easy to train and has a lot of drive. PM me if you want the address of the kennel, although it is a few hours further than Lafayette.

from what I've read they don't do as well as labs in our climate while hunting due to their different type of coat...I've always wanted one but that would be a concern of mine.

I had one that couldn't swim.

Dogs are as dumb as their owners most of the time

P.M. Sent

Exploring the options right now, I don't want a lab or a Golden Retriever.

Looking for a change from my GSP, but have a feeling I will be getting g another one. Won't pull the trigger til next year though.

Have you looked into the Deutsch Drahthaar?
From what I've read they have an excellent nose, and a very strong drive to track and retreive cripples.

It's on my short list, very similar to the GSP

Edit - I thought they were identical aside from their coats, but after reading more it looks like the GWP may be a little more mellow and strong willed. May have to dig some more.

Yea, I didn't realize you had a GSP when I sent that. You prob much more about the DD than most people.

You should get a F2 Goldendoodle, there only like $4,000.

Lol, I'll buy a drone with a claw on it for that.

I edited my previous post

Educate yourself thoroughly on what you would be getting into. I've seen a bunch and not one yet that would I would feed at the end of the day. And these were all well bred performance Chessies, only God knows what comes from backyard breedings.

If you are deadset on getting one I have a contact. PM me

Yea but they don't shed, great for kids with allergies and poop golden nuggets.

There's a lot wrong with the Laberdoodle breeding process when it comes to producing a hunting dog.

Tfazio 05-12-2015 11:52 AM

Can always go for the Boykin spaniel!

There was nothing I didn't like about that dog.

Got rid of him because I was gone 200 days a year.

They are the smartest, most loyal dog I've ever been around. They have tons of energy (which can be a negative for some) and are excellent swimmers and retrievers

Ragin_Cajun 05-12-2015 04:28 PM

Got mine from Tony Lloyns in Church Point. I concur on the brilliant part.

smooth move 05-12-2015 05:18 PM

friend has a German Wire Haired. crazy looking thing, but has more drive and stamina than any Lab i've ever owned. we hunted waterfowl and pheasant with him in South Dakota and he was great.

leblanc272 05-12-2015 07:46 PM

I just bought a Lab/GSP mix. She is only 8 weeks old but driven and smart as can be. That nose is always working and she lives to retrieve.
