This picture has popped up on Facebook. Supposedly he is from Cottonwood, Louisiana. There are a lot of people with very negative opinions toward this young man and his trophy. Just wanted to see what all you guys had to say on the subject.

You can make a stew with that but I like to mix that with some grind beef and make a surf&turf chili. Turtles like to eat baby fish and will ruin a pond full of bass and bream. This dude is a hero and has saved the lives of countless fish.

This is SaltyCajun. If you can't find support for legal turtle harvest here, where can you?

God bless him! I saw your posts on FB and thought you put it well over there.

mallardhead 05-08-2015 08:14 PM

Cook tha rice!!!!!!!!

FF_T_Warren 05-08-2015 08:40 PM

Personally I couldn't kill it. Thing has been around over a century and I just find something like that majestic. But overall as long as he's eating it and enjoying then rock on. And from the looks of the pic he can already taste it in the pot.

I'll let Ace answer this one........

Haters gona hate . Nothing you can do about that but give em the finger and tell them to F off if they don't like it. Gona be some fine eating at his house. Good for him.

redalertlures 05-09-2015 08:35 AM

I personally wouldnt kill it and I grew up catching lots like that on the Red, Oua****a and Mississippi rivers not to mention the small sloughs and creeks....we ate our share, but the really large ones we always let go unless they were not gonna make it...

We definitely "relocated" many of them lol

But as long as he is within the law and gna eat it...go for it!!

Smalls 05-09-2015 08:55 AM

More importantly.....how da hell he catch dat?!?!?!

I would have let it go, but they don't live forever. I tend to agree with others.....if they eat it, no harm, no foul.

Pat Babaz 05-09-2015 09:27 AM

It's good to see a young kid carrying on the old ways like this.... This is why Louisiana is different than Anywhere, USA

simplepeddler 05-09-2015 11:10 AM

Great catch.........if harvested within the law he has every right.......

I would not kill that particular one, but I have eaten my share of the smaller ones for sure.

Posting that pic on facebook was poor judgement in my opinion.

posting here, a sight specifically designed for that type of photo is perfect.

these young folks need to understand, you have freedom of speech and others have the freedom to critisize......

hope he inviites us all to eat!

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Facebook is an easy way for stupid people to unite and share their stupidity.

jl8200 05-09-2015 07:24 PM

If the meat isn't going to waste then who cares. Its kina a shame to kill something that made it so long but it wasn't gonna live forever...

FF_T_Warren 05-09-2015 07:31 PM

Yea it's quite crazy. He is being BLOWN UP on FB. They are ready to drag this dude behind their hybrids by the balls. I mean these ppl are calling this kid a monster and a future serial killer and everything/anything else you can think of. It's just crazy cuz he's a clean cut kid proud of his trophy he caught. Smh

Honestly he could of taken a picture of it before he cut its head off. It's a bit gruesome in my opinion. I'm an outdoorsman as much as the next guy but even I wouldn't of taken a pose like that.

FF_T_Warren 05-09-2015 07:40 PM

To be honest I think he was in the process of cleaning and someone just said hey man let me get your pic and on fb it went.

Understood but from the looks of his pic be is a young teenager. It's a cool pic at that age. Thank goodness there was not camera phones when I was his age.

RichWentFishing504 05-09-2015 08:04 PM

Anything that needs a sawzall to clean ain't worth it in my book. Good for him though. People need to lighten the heck up.

No doubt......I would never have a chance at public office..............but I don't anyways......

the art of "taste" is lost on many younger folk........de sensatized by video games maybe??

smooth move 05-09-2015 09:39 PM

nothing wrong with killing and eating the turtle, but pretty bad taste, putting a pic like that. should have posted a pic of the cooked meat or soup.

simplepeddler 05-10-2015 08:02 AM

I would love to have one that size in my pond! I have two about twenty pounds or so......

they come up and eat the brim food......but you have to be VERY still.......

pricecb 05-10-2015 10:13 AM

Need to send the haters to a chicken farm or a slaughter house. At least this animal lived a life. Chickens and some stock farm animals barley mover 20 yards from birth to slaughter. Plus this kid has truly earned his meal. Not just walked into a restaurant and ordered it.

These haters are probably the same ones that love "sin taxes" and want all weapons out of our homes. They also will be the first ones to hand the country over.
People need to toughen up.
I could walk down by street with a 20ga shotgun when I was 9 yrs old and the only thing I would get asked is how many you got. Today the swat team would blockade the town. Kids would be sent to social services and fed gov would send in psychologist for the traumatized.

FYI I didn't hunt on our street. We had fields all around us.
